Removing the front bumper cover...

ok i have a 97 RS and i ripped up the bottom of my bumper cover...anyways is there any certain easier way to get the headlights off, or is there a way to get the bumper cover off without taking the headlights out?? i could probably bust it off - but then i am stuck with the headlights still in the way of the screw holes for the bumper cover. there is one screw that i cant get at on the bottom of the headlight and that seems to be the only thing holding me back.... :banghead: any suggestions or methods that anyone has used to put on a body kit or just replacing the bumper cover cause its starting to be a pain in the ass. thanks in advance!!! :bigthumb:

I pulled the filter (front pass side on turbo cars) and reached in with a steak knife and cut that damn mount off the headlight ;) Makes it easier to remove it at the track for my poor mans cold air intake. So when I went to take off my bumper cover to install the FMIC, I had no trouble. I have heard of people that just pulled the cover down far enough to get a 2 foot ong screw driver in there somehow. PITA either way...

yea pretty much, i have new headlights for it so i'm gunna try cutting it off, but there is only one problem, my damn air conditioner hoses and shit are all right there next to the headlight housing so i think i'm gunna try using my gear wrenches and reach in from in front of the radiator... by where the hood latch is and try to get it out that way, thanks for the help!! :iceslolan

oh no i didnt get projectors, its like the regular headlight but has a black backgound and round lenses with the angel eye lights, but yea i have heard that the projectors kinda suck so i didnt get them. i forget what company make them but they look pretty good! they have the HID bulbs like you see in the Audi's and BMW's, i really like them!

you forgot as in "don't remember where you got them"? i only ask because i've been looking for a while for quality non-projector, angel eye's for a while. thanks

i got them off ebay... but i cant remember what company makes them, i have only seen them up there a few times but yes they also make projectors with angel eyes but that is not what these are... so i would look around on ebay and good luck finding them!

well the wrench option worked, i had to take out the metal piece that is right in front of the hood latch...reach my hand through a tiny ass hole and i could only move the wrench about 2 inches a time, lucky that i had gear wrenches... if any of you dont have them and do a lot of engine work in tight areas, i would suggest spending the 150 bucks on gear wrenches. they have saved me a lot of time and work excellent!!!

I have a 50 dollar set of gearwrenches that is badass. Seen many engine swaps, tranny rebuilds, etc. Must have tool...

how many came in your set though??? 26 came in my set, 13 metric and 13 SAE so i think it was worth it!!! 5 bucks a wrench that saves a shit load of time i think is pretty good!

Its about the same then, I have about 10 wrenches. I only have the sizes commonly used for building DSMs. What other sizes would you need :icon16:

or you can do what I did and it required no tools at all, grab the headlight in the middle with both hands and pull harder than you've ever thought you could and wait till hear a SNAP and the job is done...

just a thought... look at the date of the thread and dont bring back old threads unless you have a tech question about it! thanks
