Autobacs has a prototype car called the Garaiya and it uses an SR20VE engine...only 2000 pounds and a little over 200hp...~10 pounds per hp :evillol:

Garaiya is an insane car. Autobacs runs it along-side their NSX's in the JGTCC.

Id take the Garaiya over an Elsie anyday.

the elise is gonna be a US car and only cost 40k. i'd like to see a head to head on these two. i think the elise would out performe it.

another insane car i saw in an issue of Top Gear was a company in Britain who took old Tommykaira ZZ bodies and shoved SR20DET's in them, amid-ships. totally stripped out interior, it didn't even have anything covering the shift linkage - there was a big visible bar coming from the rear engine compartment up to the shifter. looked awesome, i'll have to find that issue...

I'd take the Garaiya over an Elise just because I like the SR20 better than the Celice engine in the Elise, plus...the Garaiya looks 10x better than the Elise. I still love the elise tough :)

Elise:
143bhp @ 7000rpm
128lb/ft @ 4500rpm
770kg (~1600lb)
Top speed: 133mph
0-60mph: 5.38secs
0-100mph: 14.4secs
Garaiya
217bhp @ 6000rpm (assuming it's similar to the s14 sr20 with vvt)
202lb/ft @ 4800rpm
2000lb
SR20 has better aftermarket support and with proper cooling can most likely produce more power than the elise more reliably. I'd definitely go with the Garaiya, though the elise isn't a bad choice :).

those are the old stats for the elise, the new elise (the one coming to america) has 190 or 200 hp. i can remeber which and is powered by the toyota 2zz-ge. i'd still like to see a head to head. car and driver had a 2 page on it with all the stats but that was last month (the coffe shop near my work threw it out). so i'd like to see a head to head and not just acceleration, cuz with a car like these wo theres so much more to them. i still think the elise would come out on top.
Ohhh, and the Elise weighs under 2000 pounds.

the garaiya's SR20VE is a NA motor. the sr20ve is more akin to a honda engine with vtec (as far as the valvetrain goes).

Forgot it had a ve and not de lol...but yeah...it's still more powerful by quite a bit...and doesn't weigh that much more...
And the Garaiya does look better imo...but they both are nothing compared to a 240sx or a 340r...:P
