a new idea for importing

i was talking to a friend of mine that work for the USPS and he said to look into importing the skyline to germany get it registered there cause germany is one of the only if not only country that the USA reconizies their registeration without it going threw dot testing in the USA i'm not saying i know anything but i've been reading the form for about 3 weeks and i haven't seen anyone post a thread with this idea so i thought i would bring it up if i had the money i would do it but i don't so someone willing to try this idea post a reply with some information on how i can contact you.

I can't find anything about it on the NHTSA website.
From the information I have, all vehicles (less than 25 years old) imported from outside the U.S. has to meet all DOT requirements before it can be registered and driven on public highways.
But the U.S. does allow non US residents to import a car for personal use for up to 1 year.

Given that a non-US citizen like myself could come to live and work in America, and bring my R34 with me, could I after one year replace it with another R34 that I could prove I had owned in the UK???

this right is actually for non US RESIDENTS only, citizens of other countries but is a RESIDENT of the US doesn't apply to this right.
If you come live and work in the US, I guess you will have to establish some kind of residency

The fact that I own a home in the US or live in rented accomodation makes little differences to me if it meant I could have my car. I would still be a UK citizen, and have a UK home and residency, whilst RENTING TEMPORARY accomodation to coincide with my job.

I think we have some misunderstanding about "RESIDENT"
Well, being an U.S. RESIDENT has nothing to do with what kind of place you live in. It simply means that the person can live in the U.S. permanently and work legally. A person becomes a legal resident when he/she entered the U.S. with an immigrant (employment, family, religious worker) visa.
People may also use a temporary working visa (non-immigrant) to work in the U.S.
So it actually depends on what kind of visa you entered the U.S. with.
Unless you enter the U.S. with an immigrant visa, you can sure bring your car along with you. You may import any car registered in another country to the U.S. for 1 year. I don't think there is a limit on how many cars a person can import. Just the car has to be exported after 1 year.

hmmmm...My parents are residents,born in mexico.What if they import a skyline to mexico and then we bring it over here??Is this possible??would it be easier??I see cars with mexican plates rollin over here sometimes..
