98 Jimmy Noise/Hum/Buzz While Parked

I recently purchased a 1998 Jimmy SLT. Runs and drives great.

However, it was pointed out to me that there's a buzz/hum high-pitched noise. Perhaps electrical?

Is this sound normal for this truck? Or is it something to be worried about (and to quickly get fixed?).

The sound is there whether in 2Hi or 4Hi.

Thanks in advance!

Neighbor's opinion: Noisy Fuel Pump

Sound occurs when key-on and for a few moments after key-off

GM electric fuel pumps are noisy, there are posts all over the GMC forums about them.

I have a '97 Jimmy and it makes the same noise, but when it is running it sounds like a small jet engine is behind me

Very possible that you are experiencing a noisy electric fuel pump. However I fixed a similar problem with my 97 Jimmy. The noise was coming from the hard plastic tube coming off the PCV valve running to the intake manifold for vacume. This tube/pipe has rubber elbows on either end where it connects to the PCV valve and the nipple on the intake and I found that the plastic tube part was transmitting a very audiable noise and vibration that could be heard from inside the truck. The problem can be fixed by simply replacing the tube assembly with a length of 3/8 rubber hose. I have seen this same issue on other of the same trucks and not just mine. It appears after the rubber elbows get old, they lose some of their grip on the nipples and allow the plastic tube section to transmit vacume harmonics almost as a musical instrament would Good luck
