#3 spark plug removal on 97 blazer

Does anybody know how to get the #3 spark plug (driver side middle) out on a 97 Blazer 4x4? I have replaced all the other ones but came to this one and the steering shaft is in the way. I can get the socket on but that is it. I've tried putting a universal on and no luck. Also I’ve tried using a wrench on the socket and no luck. Do I have to drop the shaft???? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPERICATED. Thanks

O.K. that was cruel.....remove the tire and wheel assembly and go in through the wheel well.

Tried that but the steering column is still in the way.

move\remove the dip stick, and cut alittle off of the heat shield. that should give you access. hope this helps

I haven't needed to remove or modify anything to remove #3 plug.
It might be the brand of socket you are using..I have found that a Snap-On flex spark plug socket works like a dream.
If you don't have time to invest in the tool, the only other thing is to drop the steering shaft.

How hard is it to drop the shaft???? Also is the socket you’re talking about just a spark plug socket with a built on universal???

Unbolt the shaft from the steering gear and slide it out of the way.

Yes, but I have found that different manufactors sockets are a little different from each other...the Snap-on is more rounded at the universal and will slide past the shaft...my Mac socket wont fit....

I Just Did This On My Wife's 1997 Bravada...should Be The Same For Your Blazer...you Need To Get A Spark Plug Socket With A "hex" End On It And Break It Loose With A Wrench, Then Remove The Wrench, Remove The Socket And Turn It Out The Rest Of The Way With Your Fingers, Reverse The Procedure To Install The New Plug. You Have To Remove The Socket Or It Will Hit The Steering Shaft Before You Get The Plug Loose.
