Buy a '95 Jetta.. or not?

I am 15-16 in January and I need a car by then. I have just started to look at some, and one of the cars I have really been looking at is the VW Jetta. There is one for sale at a used car lot, which is a 1995 black jetta (Stick Shift). It has a few minor exterior dents and scratches, but It doesnt look that bad. I haven't got to test drive it yet (because I cant drive a stick shift and my mom, who I was with, can't eaither. But my dad can, so I'll have to get him to take me.) Is it worth learning how to drive a stick shift, and $1600? The car has 128K mi. Good deal/bad deal? Thanks!

I like to buy from private persons with an inspection from a VW shop. My 1995 GLS with 145K miles in immaculate shop cost me $3400 cash. Well maintained with records.

Price on that lot is right but maybe too low. Check the paper to see what your area is charging for a 1995 then look at it if it's a decent price.

I'd rather pay more for a better Jetta than save going in to drop $1K on a new engine.

on the stick shift thing, if you want to DO anything with your car, I recommend a stick. I learned how to drive on a stick, and I hated it. five years later, I won't drive anything else. you have a lot more control over what your car does, and it's also more fuel efficient (if you don't have a lead foot like me, hehe)

Well, heres my opinion.. Just bought my 96 jetta. My roommate is an avid fan of volkswagen. So i saw, liked and bought. its was a quick bid but i won neverthe less. think its a good car and i really lucked out with this one. I wish it was a stick though. Im not used to the low horsepower a stick would make it a little quicker on pickup and better gas mileage. Of course the car wasnt properly mechaniclly maintained, so I had to sink about a Grand into it. All-in-all the car total it cost was $3500. with 134000 miles on it. From what ive read, the Jetta is a good car, but the older versions seem to be better, 96 and under. the 95s are iffie. try this website for information and recalls for all makes of all cars. www.consumerguide.com. I would definately recommend this car if you know something about cars. Also i would recommend looking into the gls 2.0 version od these cars. They seem to be more reliable jett-n

t love a car more than that one. i had an 87 SS Monte Carlo before this and although that was a nice car, mine was worth the 5000! 1600 is nothing for a tight 95 black jetta. GO FOR IT!!!!!!
