hi
1990 205 gti starts good, runs good, fuel consumption normal. if it has idled about 30 sec or more (engine warm) a cloud of oil smoke appears. high oil consumption. if cold engine is started - no smoke during warm-up and normal driving noticed. can anyone point to sth? :banghead: :uhoh: :banghead:

Sounds like piston rings to me!

have you checked the engine breathers,or tried an oil change?other option is to do a cylinder pressure test hot and cold,if the pressure varies a lot it could well be rings.

have changed the engine oil. no changes. breathing seems to work normally-not glogged.
spark plugs seem ideal to me.
compression quite equal.
cracked cylinder head maybe? :bananadie :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

could be, piston rings, head gasket, could even be valve stem oil seals as your car is getting quite old now all a nightmare to do yourself, I had a similar problem on a 205 a few years ago, turned out to be head gasket which i attempted to do myself and wished i hadnt. managed it though and it ran OK. still never figured out where the spare bolts came from????

Mine has started doing the same thing. Did you ever get this problem fixed? Only does it from warm and is fine from cold. My oil pressure gauage sometimes drops when engine is at idle. Any ideas?
Thanks
Jonathan

HI ,is the car smoking when idling?

If it's smoking only when idling and it's blue smoke i would replace the valve stem seals as these are quite common on old 205's.But only if it's blue smoke,if it's black smoke you're engine just running a bit rich-have you checked the condition of the plugs?

Hope this is of some use

valve stem seals without a doubt. Had virtually the same fault on mine. Did these and the cars much better.
