Head gasket on its way out the door?
would you say that this could be the only thing wrong and if so do you know how much it would cost for a head gasket and how difficult would it be to change that head gasket

If its over-heating DO NOT drive it unless you want a blown head gasket, cracked/warped head - that's not good!
check to make sure the fan comes on
pressure test radiator(check for leaks)
Compression test!
for the codes, your check engine light will be on or lift the passenger side carpet to reveal the ECU - if the read light is blinking - you have a code

Check your oil, is it miky? White smoke usually means coolant is entering the combustion chamber from a bad head gasket or damaged head. It would probably be a good time to remove the head & have it inspected & machined or replaced if needed. http://www.mmrusa.com/gudehead.htm

Make sure to have the head inspected!
