turbo spooling

I have t3/t4 turbo in my stock RSX running 5psi (for the time being). I noticed that when i'm on the track running 1/4 miles, once i hit 3rd gear i noticed that the rev's aren't racing to the redline like 1st and 2nd. I never crossed the 1/4 mile mark in 4th or 5th gear. Can anyone tell me what's going on???? :uhoh:

Do you have any guages? Its hard to tell whats happeneing without guages. Thats why alot of people have them, becuase if you don't, you get into your situation. Something could be happening and your not getting boost, or it could be normal. Although to me it doesn't sound right either, usually you can get to 4th; Unless your 3rd gear is unusally long, How fast are you going at the top of third?
Usually what happens is that you really dont get a bunch of boost until second or third gear when you up there for a long time, so it doesn't seem right to me either. It might go without saying, but have you checked all your intake and vacum lines for leaks? Do you have an intercooler?

yes, i have guages and an intercooler....i'm not sure how fast im going, but i cross the line at about 95mph still in 3rd. I'm just sayin, in first off the line, it spools fast to the red-line, then in 2nd it spools fast, and i change at about 7000rpm, cause i don't want the revlimiter to kick, but once i go to 3rd i notice it's not racing to 3rd....i keep forgetting to look at my boost gauge, but my question is, shouldn't there be a continous fast spool throughout the gears, or is it like you said, the 3rd gear is long??? or could it be cause i'm only pushing 5psi???? or what???

You mean it's not accelerating as fast as it would before? Or it's not 'reving' as high as quickly as it used to? The two are very different.
Is this a new turbo setup or has it been this way for a while and you only just got the problem?
Get a blow off valve.

What I thing it MIGHT be is the 5 psi, I have had similiar situations. If you think about it, you are acelerating from a stop so of course first gear flys by, then second flys about still fast but maybe just a tad slower, then you get to third already maxing at 5psi when you first shift into it. If you are trying to accelerate all the way through third maxing 5psi, it might seem to take long to get there. 5psi is pretty conserative, try 7psi (still safe) a couple of times and see you notice a difference.

You hit the nail on the head. I know 7psi is safe, but i have an automatic tranny and the torque is too much for the stock tranny. Yeah, yeah, i know, turbo and automatic, but hey, it's not unheard of. Anyway, once i rebuild my tranny i will certainly run 7-10psi on the track and see if it creeps in 3rd or not. Anyway, thanks man.
If anyone else thinks that 5psi isn't the reason please respond to this thread.

Oh geez, Its an automatic? Well then, I can get to 100 in third gear in my CRV, at 6200rpm. Of course, it doesn't usually like to switch. The "forth gear" rule only works for manuals, where youve usually got 5 gears. I think its normal for an auto, Mine does it too, (except its not high performance.) I bet your probably getting boost fine, it just takes a while with an auto. It like maxes out in third gear, but the speedo keeps going right? It has something to do with the torque convertor loosing power, I think its normal. Once you get a high performace auto tranny it won't do it anymore, even just a torque convertor upgrade would probably fix it.
Edit: I dont mean to say I can get to 100 in the 1/4, just that when I floor it, my car does the same thing.

Okay, i don't understand how the torque converter would mean im losing power as im in the 3rd gear. The torque converter is only responsible for putting me into gear, once in gear, it should have nuttin to do with why i'm not racing to the redline while in 3rd. To my understanding a torque converter works just like a clutch, once it makes the transistion, it's out of the equation. Also, just to let you know, i have 5 gears, not 4; just sayin cause you was talking about "fourth gear" rule!

He is right, I'm sticking with my auto in my accord. I know, I've heard it from everyone, why are you trying to run 11's with an auto. For the simple fact, it's consistent and when you are bracket racing, that's what counts. Anyway, a built torque converter will help, but that's just how honda auto trannies are. They have an unbelieveably long third gear.
EDIT - The torque converter will get you into gear faster which means you won't lose the rpms, that's how it will help. As we all know, hondas don't have a lot of torque so you have to keep the revs up.
