Sounds like the ignition module, mounted under the dist. has failed. That or the oil pressure switch. The van wants to see a small amount of oil pressure before it will fire as well.
The wire you speak of comming off the coil is a tachometer signal.

IIRC, it's the oil pressure sending unit right a tthe back of the engine. It screws into the block right behind the distributor.
Merlin is that right one? I know there's two.

The ignition module is the one on the distibuter? When I changed the distributer there was one on it so im guessing thats not it. We were having trouble with oil pressure read out before so I'm guessing thats probably it. Thank you will let you know if it works

The ignition module mounts under the dist cap. If the new one came with one installed then yes I would think that should be fine.

You can try replacing the coil ignighter which is available at most junkyards for liek 12 dollars including tax and a 1 dollar core. I experienced the same problem a while ago, replaced the coil first with no luck, but after replacing the coil ignighter she started with no trouble. The coil ignighted is usually located under the "dog house" inside the van on the output (transmission) end of the motor just above the floor on the passanger side of the van. It connects with like a 5 or 6 prong wide connected. Worked for me, so theres me 2 cents.
