Hello everyone; I just bought my first Aurora yesterday 10/07/03 and love it. It's 97 teal with 107,000 on it. Getting it just yesterday I wanted to check this puppy out more thoughly and find and fix anything that didnt work. Well the gas guage acts funny like a bad ground the trunk pop switch doesnt work the keyless entry also is not working however i did get the panic button to work. All in all I'm very pleased with this car as those are tiny minor problems that can be fixed very simply by myself. Heck even if the problems were more serious I know that i could fix them because im an auto mechanic by trade. The only thing that really irks me is that I cannnot find a repair manual that deals primarilly in this car. Its like Haynes (my favorite for my cars) totally ignores this car which is a shame because I think they do an excellent job on their wiring schematics. Anyway if anyone has any info on getting a thorough manual for this car it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

Now that's funny, I bought my first Aurora yesterday and I am looking for a service manual too (mines a 95). I would think the only manual worth having would be the genuine GM dealer service manual. This is a 2 book set and covers Aurora & Riviera. There is a separate set for each model year. I see them on eBay all the time but they are going for about $45 to $65. Probably well worth it seeing as the 4.0 Aurora powerplant is in a league of its own. I have DSM's for my other cars.

"the gas guage acts funny like a bad ground"

I had a similar problem with my 97, had to change the fuel-level sensor.

Costs about $160 CDN for the part from the dealer.

They don't list a service manual for a '97.

I had a problem with the fuel door button and trunk button. The dealer told me that the switch was broken and that to get a new one it would cost $100. Lucky for me that he didn't have any in stock. I went home and popped the switch out to check it. It turned out that the contacts had gotten all dusty from where someone had applied some sort of dielectric grease. I cleaned the contacts and haven't had any problems since.

Fantastic! Good find. Thats usually about the winning bid on E-Bay for used. Nothing comes close to the factory books. I've been putting it off for $120, but not now.

No problem indy. My trunk button is working fine the first thing i did was try switching the relay with another then I took the switch out and tested it with my multimeter so the button is fine but the trunk doesnt pop from inside i have to use the key for now. This weekend i will test the solenoid that actually pops the trunk and test to see if power is getting to it. If the power is getting where it has to go then I'll head down to my local you wrench it auto parts and pick up a solenoid

Sometimes it's a fine line you have to walk on the lubrication issue. I've seen things stop working when the contacts get dry or attract too much dirt if using grease, as you found out. I try to use silicon spray because it's the cleanest option. Down side, it only lasts days. Die-Electric(silicon) grease gets smeared all over my weatherstrip and soft rubber pieces three times a year. Works great, looks brand new.

Hello people.. I just bought a 1999 Aurora on 11/14/03 and just joined this forum tonight 11/16/03.. Thank you for the manual info I just ordered one a few minuets ago.. Damn, this car is sweet! My car is std with bronze mist paint.. I have been driving a 92 Chevy ck1500 for 9 years now and it's kinda tired so I decided to buy a car.. I'm quite pleased with this car, it's more bad ass than it looks..lol

Ok Im an idiot lol just found that theres another switch inside the glove box for turning the switch on or off. Turned it on and viola turnk switch works. Never seen it from the drivers seat the wife pointed it out. I pulled the rear carpet out to test the fuel guage sending unit and the wiring going to it is correct so the only parts store that sells one on a sunday wanted 280 bux for a fuel pump/sending unit. Well I didnt buy it I'm gonna see what monday brings. Im glad that I decided to pull the carpet as it was soaked from what appears to be a styrofoam cooler that broke. While I was in the trunk I replaced the cheesy stock speakers with some pioneer four ways.

i have alot of luck with parts at junk yards.about anything but engine, there isn't any.they go quick.and boy are they wrecked.their electrical nightmares, esp with all the extras.my gas gauge stays on full forever, but when it starts down, look out.i kinda like it.i swear the car has a mind of its own,but their fun.i was going to ask about the switch in box but didn't want to sound well aaaaaaa, thats what wives are good for,who knew.

Yep reprogrammed the remotes they're working great. I should mention that my first post was a typo and i got the month wrong. What it should have said was that I got the car on 11/07/03.

Did you get your perimeter lighting feature to work? I got all other functions programmed on mine, but following my owners manual instructions, could not get it to accept that command.

Hello my fellow Aurora Driver:

Ebay is an great source to buy the two volume set.The dealer is Crazy and wanted $125.00

I got my set for $ 35.00 plus shipping for my 1995 Olds Aurora.

Also ebay is a good source for parts:

Alternators,radiators, interior parts,starters, ac compressor.

Some people part out their wrecked aurora's, good deal on most parts and all the folks selling the parts are honest.Ebay tries to keep it that way.

Good luck.

search under (oldsmobile Aurora or Olds Aurora)

Good luck, (Driving along in my oldsmobile.

Not that I'm doubting you but that must've slipped by me. I've bid on the damn things every time I see 'em for my '95 and they always seem to shoot over $100... I always put $60ish as my bid and hope I'll get a set someday.
