I just realized that my wife's car very light! So...
Just out of curiousity, what engine(s) could be swapped into my wife's car?

If I'm not mistaken... and correct me if I'm wrong... but a '90 Mirage should (emphasis on SHOULD) be able to swap out and take a 4G63.

The same 4G63 that resides in the Eclipse GST or GSX... a turbo, 2.0L engine, turning your wife's 'light weight' car into a rather nice little sleeper, especially if you keep it looking stock... though, once the turbo is heard, people will know.

:D

hmm.... for mirage.. i think u should swap in 4G93 engine which also called is a Mitsu Galant 2.0L VR4 Turbo engine (i think it's 250- 280hp) . Alot of people did that swap in malaysia and u wont believe the power from that engine . So if u're going to do this swap , remember to convert ur FWD car to a 4WD car.

A VR4 engine would be sweet, basically the same as an Eclipse GSX (AWD Eclipse), the only problems would be $$$ and making it emissions legal.

Money, as always an issue for car modifications, would include the engineering/mechanical modifications necessary to make the Mirage AWD, rerouting the exhaust, changing the engine mounts, modifying the suspension (heavier engine = need for better suspension), and the electrical system work to make it all work properly. Plus you'll need the appropriate transmission, all the drive train components, new axles, and the braking system required to stop the vehicle. Then throw in the cash needed for labor.

After you've spent about $12000 to $15000 on the mods, then you've got to make it pass emissions. Which is more time and money.

If you can do it, good luck to you! I'd love to see something like that work and out on the street.

Cool site. Good to see that the mods are out there. Has good specs on the different engines used, too.

They have the 4G92, the MIVEC, 1.6L engine. That's the route I'm planning on going. I've mentioned it in a post on a different thread.

They also have the 4G63, the 2.0L Turbo. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this is an easy power booster since it's easily found from any Eclipse GST or GSX.

They also have the 4G93, which is the non-turbo 2.0L engine found in the Eclipse GS or RS. This is a solid engine and can have a turbo kit fitted to it pretty easily... basically making it a 4G63.

But, isn't the VR4 engine a 6-cylinder? I thought it was. If it is the same as the 4G63, than that's an easy swap, but if it's a 6-cyl, you should go the 2.0L MIVEC route... I think it's called a 6-A12 or something like that... because it is an engine that is offered in overseas Mirage models. Then again, it could also be the same 6-cyl as the MIVEC.
