Damn Peloton, nice find. Is Clinic still in Woking? Pics of Clinic are increasingly scarce. Well done again.

BTW, Can you just call Woking and ask like where is XP2 and they will reply with an answer? And what happened to XOTech

Great pic Peloton. Does any one know how many
times the clinic model has been repainted, I only ask
because I also saw a pic of it in yellow.

Gentlemen, I am still here. I have been mostly out on business, but was able to attend the SEMA Show in Las Vegas most of this last week. You may also be interested to know that #038 was there again. It did have some interesting wheels on the car, but was not on the trailer this year. I will perhaps post a picture or two when I get everything sorted out.
There has been quite a flood of information here since I have last posted. You guys have been busy. :)

The Clinic Model began it's life in silver, was later painted this burgundy color, and then eventually was painted yellow. There has been a rumour that it was also painted blue at one point - I'm not certain where in it's life cycle that would have been - but I have never seen a photo of it in blue.

Also, it's current location is unknown, though andybee recently mentioned that it was on display for a while at the Beaulieu Motor Museum in England. A quick search of their website didn't show that it was still there, but mini magic plans to check in December.

Thanks for the info peloton. I found a sight that has a pic
of the clinic model painted blue; or so they claim, I saw some
differences like the black piece of trim under the two front intakes,
four rear lights, and the lower front light cluster is a different shape
to tell the truth it looks exactly like the production version, could
it be that these mods were made to the cinic model.they also say
that it was originaly a light shade of green, I saw a pic of it painted
a DARK shade of green in a book called 50 Years of Classic Cars,
maybe thats the color that they are talking about. They say it
now resides Fremont, CA in the garage of Larry Blair. Can someone
clear up the confusion.

Here's the websites URL.

McLarenF1LM -
It seems you are confusing some of those pictures with the captions on that page. The blue car is XP4, not the Clinic Model. As mini magic identified - the burgundy F1 photo you posted here is actually the Clinic Model and that is an excellent shot. If you have questions about any other photos or which F1 might be in a certain photo, just post it here and we should be able to tell you. There are a lot of random shots of silver F1s that we won't be much help on though. :D Eventually you'll get to the point where you can spot the subtle differences yourself and you won't need us to help.

Oh wait a minute. I see that the page has many of your names on it so you probably already know about it. Sorry
about that.

That's hilarious!! McLaren F1 Guy - you rock for making that page. It's a classic. I can tell where you got a lot of your information. Thanks for giving credit to many of the people here who made it all possible. I even got top billing. :D ;)

Let's see - things to fix though...

XP5 has never actually been black, it only appears to be black in most pictures. It's always been Dark Metallic Green.

Under "My Favorite F1's" you'll need to change the chassis number of the #075 car to #073 - a few of us were wrong about that one initially. Also, the name of the color on that car is "Kandy Orange" not "Yquem". Apparently only the last F1 - #075 is designated as "Yquem" even though there are three F1s which all look to have the same color of paint.

Both of the customer F1 LMs that I've seen photos of also feature the "F1 LM McLaren F1 LM" windshield banner, so that wouldn't be a unique identifying feature of XP1 LM.

The engine cover of the Clinic Model isn't "welded shut". It was just integrated into the body when the car was built.

"Driving Ambition" was written by Doug Nye with Ron Dennis and Gordon Murray.

XP1 wasn't completely demolished in the accident in the desert, but it subsequently caught fire when oil leaked out of the engine onto the exhaust manifold. That is what destroyed the car.

Other than those little bits - that's a pretty good write up you have there. It certainly shows you have been paying attention, and that the efforts of a lot of people here aren't being wasted if others are benefitting from them as it would seem you have.

Now the only question remaining in my mind is why you didn't share that website with us sooner?? :(

I didn't tell you guys about it because it was still kind of in the works, I knew some of the info was incorrect and I intended to fix it sooner or later, but left it unchanged because I was lazy and I thought nobody else would see it and point out the errors. I'll be sure to make the changes you mentioned. I'm amazed how McLarenF1LM found the site, I didn't submit it to any search engines or anything, but I noticed it somehow worked it's way on google! I think it's because AOL's search is powered by google, and it's an AOL hometown site

You should know by now that you can't really hide anything McLaren related from this ferocious group. :D

Also, Google has WebCrawling software that goes out looking for new things, so even if you don't submit it anywhere it can still show up in a search.

I've edited the site now, changed everything peloton pointed out and moved the XP1 and XP4 sections a bit farther apart so nobody else will confuse them.

On the subject of the clinic car's colors, heres the pic of it in purple (it may look a bit red, but trust me, in the book I have it's purple) I don't think these should be new pics because if you search for 'McLaren F1' on webshots.com, it's in there. More pics from the same photoshoot can be seen in the book entitled "Sports Cars - high performance machines". I picked it up at Barnes & Noble which is the only place I've seen it. The book features an overhead view of the clinic car (I do not see any engine, in fact I don't see anything there whatsoever), a side view in which everything on the car is supposed to be opened - one door is up, the spoiler is up, one side comparment is opened, the front storage compartment is opened but the engine cover isn't up! Anyway, here is the pic: http://community.webshots.com/s/image3/1/96/45/4419645bBqeFOORkX_ph.jpg (I've had bad luck with posting webshots images on other forums so just to be safe heres the URL to the pic: http://community.webshots.com/photo/4419591/4419645bBqeFOORkX )

Well I'd call that burgundy, or even red, a lot sooner than I would ever call it purple. If it was purple when they printed it in the book, then I would guess their printing process was a little off or they manipulated the color of the photos prior to printing.

I'll check your site again later.

McLaren F1 Guy, sorry for blowing the lid off your secret,

Peloton25
11-11-2003, 06:15 PM
Nope - unfortunately I've never seen any. I believe they only used it in a commercial, not a print ad.

There's really only a handful of shots of the Clinic Model in burgundy, and most are very common on the web.

I just bought a collection of automotive post cards on Ebay which includes this photo, so I should be able to produce a better scan of it than the one you posted. Now all I need is a scanner. ;)

Here's a photo of the cards:

http://i10.ebayimg.com/03/i/00/dd/92/ce_1.JPG

It doesn't look to be very large, but I'll see what I can do. I've never seen this photo printed on anything else that's why I questioned what mini magic was going to be using as his source before.
