Welcome into the world of modeling.
You can work in the garage, inside, doesn't matter really as long as you ventilate the space you working in. Revell for example has different 'skill levels' from 1 (snap kit, few pieces) to level 5 (over 150 pieces).
You can take a look in a local hobbyshop and see what they have. I'm sure they'll give a quick tour if you want to.
I'll buy my stuff online, HobbyLinkJapan.
There are many different (brand) types of glue, cements etc etc. I use Tamiya stuff.

Ps: Read the FAQ, it's very usefull.

Unfortunately, you're actually too young to be a member of AF, the user guidelines specify that you need to be 13 or older to join.

In response to your questions though:
I work on my models in our den, it is also where our PC's live so I can work and post at the same time.

Simple models? What do you have in mind?

Glue, I use several, 2 different types of super glue, plastic cement, 2 part epoxy, Elmer's glue and clear parts cement. Which glue I use depends entirely on what I am doing.

actually, i think you just need a parent's permission to join if you're under 13... anyways

i work on my models in my room where i wont be bothered... but i always have my window open for ventilation...

you can find the simplest models in the toy section of your local target, fred meyer's, etc.... but make sure you know what skill level to get...

the best would probably be tamiya, although testor's and model master give tamiya a good run for their money...

Welcome to car modeling. I got serious about making models around that age, and it's been a great hobby since then.
For your age, I'd suggest going to the local hobby stores. I don't know where you live (fill the member info), but in the U.S., Hobby Lobby has 1/2 off every so often, and Michael's issue 40% off cupon in their ad every weekend.
Online shopping is probably difficult, because you'll need a credit card most of the time.

As for glue, there are several different ones you need.
* Liquid glue, (also called styrene welder), which you apply with a brush
* Two-part epoxy glue to glue the clear part.
* Super glue to glue verious parts, (except clear part) and to fill gaps and sink marks.

For detail painting with a brush, I recommend using enamel, and for the body paint, I recommend to get used to Tamiya's spray primer and spray paint.

It doesn't work like that at all. How does a website like this verify that you actually have your parent's permission?

Believe me, I help run another site similar to this one, 'parent's permission' is not sufficient on a website, it is actually a legal issue.

its all been said before so i wont repeat it, lol. FAQ is your friend, so never forget that! :D

also, will i be able to use superglue on painted parts without melting the paint? As it is extremely annoying to sand off the paint on areas i have to clue :(

Also, I asked for some clear glue at my hobby shop, and the dude there gave me this "revell Liquid Glue for plastics" Now to me this doesnt look like clear glue, but what the hell. Is it clear or was the dude bsing me???

it depends on what you mean by clear...

if you mean something to use on clear parts, then he gave you the wrong type... what he gave you was for normal part gluing... its liquid cement...

welcome, I've been building since 5 so why did you start so late lol :lol2:

I highly recommend going to Wal-Mart and picking up an AMT pre-painted kit. let let be your first kit, its prohibably thre best way to start, also, work in a warm area, with good ventilation,

also, be careful, you lucky to be young and prohibably not worken yet, its easy to spend 60-70 bucks at a hobby store, and for a college student like me that can really hurt the Beer budget,

wow, that takes me back, I can remember doing that, but that was a couple years ago before I had my licence, and now, all I have to do is grap the keys to my AC/Heated car and drive to the Hobby Store

Yo wassup. Ur too young to be here but wtf.
I work on my models in the garage and also indoors. I do all the spraypainting in the garage and all the other stuff indoors. U can get "relatively" simple models at any hobby store or at art stores or even at wal mart, longs drugs, etc. The glue that i use is testors non-toxic model cement (the blue one). I use a mix of testors and tamiya paints. Testors enamels for detailing and Tamiya spray paint for exterior. Hope this helps, yo.
