Alarm Immobliser Advice

Hi All,

I'm finally the proud owner of a 97 Golf Gti 8V, I'm delighted with the car itself but I am having a little problem with the security on it.

I believe that there is an alarm fitted(has unltrasonics inside) but the alarm button wont work, I've tried to do a reprogramme by following some advice in this forum but it doesn't appear to work. I've also changed the batteries so that isn't the problem, the key fob has a single button on it BTW.

Could someone confirm these steps.

-Put one key in the ignition and turn it until the dash lights up (The engine is not on)

-Lock doors with other key and hold key turned in locking position for 10 seconds.

-Hold key in unlocking position for 10 seconds

- Horn should sound, then press key fob.

This doesn't work and although I'm getting a CAT 1 fitted next week I'd really like a bit of extra protection if possible.

I believe that the immobiliser is arming but I'm not sure, I hear a click after about 30 seconds when I turn off the ignition which sounds like my last immobiliser.

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions I would be really grateful.
