Another "where to begin" question

OK folks...I am somewhat new to these forums... and totaly new with this car.

I just got a 1998 Camaro.... thats the good news, bad news is that it is a V6. Someone before me spent a BUNCH of money to cover up the fact that it was infact a 6cyl. By that I am talking about a SS conversion, megaflow performance dual exhaust... things like that. My question is this, with my 'lil 6 banger, other than the obvious of switching to a V8, what can be done for performance? The main saving grace is that it IS thankfully a 5 speed. I have been thinking about starting with an intake of some type, can anyone recomend one that they like for the 6? Also, has anyone seen what they are calling a "Speedchip" on e-bay.. looks like a crock of $h!+ to me... but any one else have any input on it (here is a link to it) hope that it is ok to put the link here... mods, if not, please let me know.

All I can say is HKS, everything by HKS. The ECU mod chips work well but not the Faux chips they are peadling on e-bay.

Well in looking at the site... (unless I am reading it wrong) the only intakes parts they show for my car is the Super Mega Flow Intake... is that correct?

I am almost sure that your car can take corvette parts as well

If you want an intake, I know SLP's Cold Air intake will fit your car, even though it's says V8 on them...

Also, to demonstrate the faux nature of the idiots selling those chips, it says that it's good on an 03 Camaro, which is non-existant. Don't buy things on ebay from stupid people...

Hey, another good power adder would be to put some 3.73 gears in the back of that thing. That will definatly drop your 1/4 mile time a bit. Get a better clutch later on maybe. Then you can always go the nitrous route, but I would do a lot of research before using it. Along with the gears you may wanna mess with the suspension and tires, if you can hook up and take off right away thats always gonna get your times lower. Good Luck man...

thanks alot for all the help guys... I kinda need to keep the gears about where they are, because I am going to be doing alot of highway driving with this (job). Another question.. if I run a cold air intake, will it mess with my MAS?

I just converted to a LS1 MAF sensor and translator plus box on my Grand National. I know that you don't have a LS1 but it is the same type of MAF sensor ( The LS1 has different pramaters or something like that.) The GN guys use them because we max our MAF's out when we start flowing enough air to support about 300 HP. Anyway the LS1 MAF automaticly corrects for air temp. The GN's have an Air temp sensor, but when you convert to the LS1 you don't need it. Well you do but just to keep the check engine light from coming on.

If you want serious performance at great prices on everything from Rims to Stroker kits at Wholesaler price you need to go to Camaro Performance Concepts, they have great prices and great service I just bought some Chrome Z06 Rims for only $825 and they are real and I am right now saving up for a Stroker Kit from Camaro Performance Concepts.

There website is

ive got a 94 with the 6 cylinders and there really isnt much out there...
- slp CAI works well with the car and fits but not well, cause its made for a v8 the elbow tube and intake tube dont meet each other(about two inches of space created by the lack of an MAS) but can be solved with a rolled piece of aluminum

- chips work wonders...ive got the jet stage one, wish i had the stage two but im happy none the less

- totally recommend gearing to 3.73, works even greater wonders.

- and if you want to dish out the cash go to www.supersixmotorsports.com for a complete top end rebuild that will get you down the track in a hurry

or you could go with an engine swap to the LT1 or a vortec supercharger...there are a world of after market parts for your 3.8 (as opposed to my 3.4 :banghead:)
