Should I Buy a Matrix...?

Went to the Toyota dealer to day to check out an XRS... had 21 miles on it and check engine light on... we drove off the lot and it wouldn't go past 3000 rpm. It was hitting 3000 like a rev limiter. Just wondering if this is a sign of things to come? Any owners care to comment.
Thanks

Ive had my Matrix XRS for a year and no problems with it. I wouldnt buy that particualr Matrix of course, but on the whole, I can say it is a pretty well rounded car.
There are some complaints but it depends on wht you want out of the car. If you want an affordable, sporty car that can hold lots of stuff, is fun to drive like ya stole it, and looks fairly cool, then go for it.
If you can can easily drop about 7 grand more and really want daily driver performance with lotsa low end torque then you might want to consider the WRX instead. The only other car i considered beside those two was the Jetta Wagon 1.8t. They all had their plesses and minuses, but what it came down to was affordability and reliability with some performance.
They all had speed, handling, and looks.

I just got my Matrix today, coming from a ford truck, the accelleration is a kick in ass. I almost backed into another car because she moves pretty quick.
Turning in this thing is also a lot of fun, you think about making a left at the light, and your already there.

I drove a XRS in Kissimmee, Fl from Kissimmee Toyota.
Flew down Oceola Parkway at 110MPH plus, shifting 6 from the dash.
It was great!
I put like 15-20 miles on the test drive and it's a really durable car. In addition, I was already renting a XR model from Alamo during my visit which was the reason I wanted to test drive the XRS in the first place.
I think it would be a great car for commuting to work.

My brother has a XR and he loves it. Great gas milage, excellent handling, very nice performance, easy and pretty cheap to modify if that is what you are into, great looks, if you get one with the factory body kit it already looks stunning. i have driven it a few times and i can honestly say that i would drive one but not over my lancer(more comfortable to me(big guy)). if you like the looks and you like good gas milage then go for it. not too pricey but you get your money's worth.

i woudl recommend the matrix, its a really nice car, the speed for the lower models isn't the best, but overall its a great value, right now im deciding between the matrix xr and the scion tC

My sister just got a Matrix a month ago. Its...cute.Personally, I think the car looks kind of egg shaped. Performance-wise, its a quick little thing, for its price range. The turning radius is good, and of course, as with almost all Toyota's, the mpg on it is fantastic. Of course, personally, in the genre of the sporty cars, I prefer the Mazda3. I CANT WAIT TO GET MY CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE though!
