B16A confusion?!?@

Okay,

I've finally decided on which engine I want to put into my 1989 Honda Civic Hatchback just to find myself in even more confusion. I visited a website called www.hmotorsonline.com and they have the B16A 88-91 SiR-I engine for sale for 1250.00 (motor, tranny, ecu) and then another engine for 1499.00 that says complete changeover and it includes all of the above plus Axles with Half Shaft, Shift Linkage, Stock Motor Mounts.

First of all, do I need the stuff that comes with the 1499.00 package or am I okay buying the 1250.00 package? The next thing that confused me were the fact that there were several B16 motors: B16A 88-91 (SiR I), B16A 92-93 Integra (XSi), B16A 92-95 (SiR-II).

Personally i'm eyeballing the B16A SiR-I motor package for 1250.00, but will it work fine with my car? All I want to do is get a good 300 HP out of my Civic and blow away my little brothers V8 Caprice. I appreciate your expertise.

Thanx

Ok there are a few different thing to keep into consideration

you WILL need axels, Shifter linkage and Some of the wire harness (specialy if your car is a DPFI)

the Stock motor mounts will be usless fo you since you are not swaping into a car that Had a B-series motor in the first place, you will need a set of motor mounts from HCP, Place Racing or Hasports for a direct bolt in... and to save some time might as well get a shifter linkage for the appropriate motor mounts you buy... because they are all diferent.

axels I say buy New, that way you have a waranty on them... but you can buy used.

Now the Main difference between B16A (first gen) is the transmission but the ECU is also

there are 3 possible transmission you can get with a B16 swap
- S1 - Short Gear ratio
- Y1 - Longer gears
- YS1 - Longer gears usualy with LSD

there are 2 choices for ECU
- PW0 - Conventional B16 ECU
- PR3 - a little more agressive fuel maps

Now the Integra XSi had a PR3 and S1 setup
rather than the Civic/CRX SiR had a PW0 and either Y1 or YS1 setup

Good news is that they are all interchangable.

I have a PR3 and S1 in my car, great acceleration but not so great on fuel (compaired to my ZC) and revs High on the Highway, so this may not be Ideal for your application.

if you plan on going turbo a LSD YS1 is a better choice.

it's up to you.
