looks good eddie. nice cage, what rod size you used? I find .100 rod works the best for me. those rims look hot under there, go with them they have a deep look in the bak.
.100 ..that's what..2.5mm roughly? Mines about 2mm which in scale would work out to about 48mm. So that would be just under 2 inches in real life. I was tied to using rod that matched the diameter of the stuff in the Tamiya cage but it looks right in there. I hate making roll cages..it's so hard to hold pieces in place and get the bars cut right. I drilled a couple of joins and used shortened sewing pins to hold it together. It works well but can't be done on all joints unfortunately. :uhoh:

What do you all think?
Weee!!
Seriously, this is probably the best thread I've ever followed (no offense to any of my other heroes around AF). This is the sort of build up that on one hand makes me want to throw out all my models and just give up and on the other hand push my skills to the limit until my fingers fall off and my head explodes. I think this sort of talent is rare, and I am rather mystified to see it in action. I used to fancy myself as pretty good at building but this really blows me away. I remember when this thread first started I didn't think much of it, I thought, just another crazy half baked project. How wrong I was! Your roll cage is art, and really, all of this model is. I showed it to my girl and even she was impressed. I really honestly can wait to see this completed, because each step and detailed explanation is a treat in itself.
I hate to seem such a filthy brownoser but this build up honestly blows me away.

And it gets better every time I look at it!
I would go with the watanabes though, but it`s your model so do what seems best..

2.5mm. I find that the 2.0mm was too small, and my large hands were destroying them. I agree about the cages and all completely. The hardest damn thing for me is to do the main hoop symetrically. because I like to make it from one piece. but everything else from there on is easy. now, I'm making an 8point cage with gussets for extra strength for my ITR.

I just found this thread, and its amazing. I'm a newbie, and it just has been inspiring. I actually jusdt purchased my first model adn supplies. Hopefully I will receive them this week and I can get started.
I've noticed in some of the past updates, the pictures havne't shown up. At least for me. Anyone else have that problem? Ratdat, I was wondering if you could repost some pics. They started to not show up when you posted them for the door panels. And from what I've read, I really want to see them.
Thanks!!
edit: The pics are showing up now....and all I can say is (actually my jaw just dropped, and I can't even explain it) That's how amazing this is.
One quick question. Back when sanding and smoothing the body, it looked like it went back to the base black color....is that because you sanded it down that far or did you spray it with something?

I belive he Sprayed it with primer, this will allow you to see any slight defects much easier once it is primed
