Would a jdm engine change how you shift, since it is from japan the transmission is from right hand driven car?

...nope..exactly the same
only difference is if you're in a rhd car..you shift with your left..all gears are in the same spot.

the tranny is still on the same side of the car in US and japan, they both go the same direction:
1-3-5
2-4-R
so the like he said the only difference is the hand you use to shift it.
