Need some advise. My 91 525i Radio, left front speakers are cutting in & out making an occassional crackling sound. I dont think the speakers a blown because occassionally it plays great sound. I'm thinking it might be a ground wire, relay or something. Where should I start looking? Also how do you pull out the radio from the dash? Thanks for your help!!!

Have you found an answer through another source? My 93 525i is doing the exact same thing. Left front too! Hoping you found an answer for us.

Now that is wierd!! I've got a 1992 520 e34. I fitted a new head unit, 2 amps, 4 new speakers and a sub. I also have problems with the front left speaker crackling or not working. What's even stranger is the fact that the front speakers are running on new wire from one of the amps and this is connected to the head unit via phono leads. I put it down to a dodgy connection, but I have checked all of the connectors and they're fine.

I replaced the head unit with another OEM and it now works fine. Replaced nothing else. Weird is right......

Cargorick,
Which head unit are you referring to? The actual radio in the dash, the amp? I have a 1991 525i with the same problem. I though it might be a bad connection. Evidently it's a common problem.
Thanks,
Will

The radio in the dash was the problem. I did replace the amp 1st...but same problem. Put old amp back in and changed the radio. Problem fixed.
