Hi,
I have a 1997 Peugeot 406 ST petrol car. I changed the timing belt (through a Mechanic) last year and since then the oil consumption is way high. Roughly it consumes 1.5 litres for every 1300 miles. Another thing which I have noticed is when the oil level is low, ( at the lower mark of the oild indicator in the engine) the power on the engine is high and when I topup the oil there is a significant reduction in the power. At the moment I am using Castrol 10W 40 oil.
There is no blue smoke.
Any advise in this regards is greatly appreciated.
Wit regards,
ASIV

Have you checked for Oil leaks??? That is always the first place to look- if none come back and we'll go from there ;)

Hi Jimster,
There is no oil leak. Also I checked for smoke through the oil fill cap by removing the oil cap with the engine running. There was no smoke comming out that way. When I raced the engine, few drops of oil were splashing through the oil cap.
Also milage on the engine is 58100 miles.
Thanks.
With regards,
ASIV
