it depends on the person
a supercharger will give u instant boost and stay with you throughout the entire way.
A turbo will give you boost when your rpm's are high. But a turbo will give you more boost. Also superchargers take hp to make hp. Turbo is more like free hp.
i personally like turbos

allright, boost 101:)
A turbo charger uses the velocity of the exhaust gases to make hp. the exhaust gases spin a turbine, which in turn, spins a compressor wheel. the compressor wheel sucks air in through an intake, and then shoots it back to the engine. all turbo's have lag though. lag is refered to as the time it takes for the turbo to start spining and produce positive hp(rather than just being a restriction in the exhaust flow).
there are different types of superchargers. they all work the same way as a turbo except they get there energy from the crank. the crank spins a belt, which spins a compressor. the problem with this is that it puts strain on the engine(the same way an a/c compressor does), so it cant produce the kind of peak power a turbo can. it has no lag though, and thus, power throuhgout the entire rpm range.
any questions?

how much horsepower gain?

mathematically, unlimited.
but your engine and wallet both have to be able to handle it.
most lower level supercharger kits yield about 50hp while turbos yield about 70 or so. thats a very rough estimation though.

BUY A TURBO!! I command you. j/k I really do recommend the Turbo though. Just buy the Turbo and make sure your engine and tanny can handle the "boost" and you will be steamin all da local rice. LOL "Steamed Rice."
