IMO i dont like GSR's. You can do so much more stuff the Si. Ha, lack of torque. Thats why when u slap a drag III turbo kit on the Si, it puts 264 HP to the wheels. :D

Of all the b series motors... the b16 in the Si has a better aftermarket following. The b18c1 GS-R is more powerful but parts aren't as readily available.
If it were me... I'd get the Si (though I prefer the 5th gen Si hatchback better... mostly 'cause it's light as hell... that and the fact that I have a 5th gen hatch. :D) then swap the motor out for the b18c1 GS-R powerplant. Then I'd do the basic I/H/E on the motor... but later, I'd turbo the sucker... even just a small intercooled Greddy kit would be great. With only 8 psi, you could drive it everyday without having to worry about it's durability. You'd have 240 hp easily! Port and polish the head, work on the ignition, and get more fuel flowing... you could boost it to 270 hp without increasing boost pressure.... just like Greddy's Integra GSR.
So.. here's the summary:
6th Gen Civic Si coupe with turbocharged b18c1 powerplant = car with serious balls.

Why don't you test drive both of them and see what you like better?

True, but then again, why take out the b16 to begin with?

[B][FONT=arial][COLOR=red]You can get a "carfax" report for about $20 good for 90 days and then you can check the history of the car with a simple entry of the VIN number. In my oppinion i'd go with the gsr or get a civic dx and do a motor swap ( b16a, b18c1 or b18c5 ) and then you will have a fast car with the money you have left from not getting the GSR or the SI. But thats my oppinion, test drive both and see what you think. I have a GSR engine in my 97 civic and I love it. Good luck. stefan525:sun: [COLOR=red]

ghetto is right...
take a b18c5 for god sake, and drop it in a 2k si
then have your fun from there, and you can get some cash from the b16, maybe trade it in for a turbo..

'01 GSR motor with 13,xxx miles. Had 4,xxx miles when bought. It comes complete with everything needed to drop into 92-00 civic and 94-01 integra. It comes with two ecu's: a '01 and '94. It also comes with a B16 A/c bracket so you can retain your Air conditioner (92-00 civic). Motor is VERY healthy, runs mid 13's in a 92 hatch with minor bolt ons. I have a 94 coupe and it probably runs mid to high 14's stock. I have not opened up the motor and everything is completely stock. Also for sale is '94 GSR suspension with shocks and everything (except E brake cable) for $300, and also a Tanabe Super Racing Medallion exaust for 92-95 civic coupe for $450, and lastly a Blue AEM short ram intake for $50. EMAIL me first if interested, and i'll try to answer all your questions. Ask for jim.

DUDE.......... A GSR.....END OF STORY.......... CIVIC VS. A GSR...ITS LIKE SAYING SOTCK INTAKE VS. INJEN COLD AIR.....GO GSR.......:spit:
this thread has to be the most saturated with uninformed posts I have ever seen.
First of all, you act like there is some sort of tremendous difference between a stock intake and an injen cold air intake. Naturally aspirated air is naturally aspirated air. An intake is an intake. You're not seeing any significant power difference from an intake.
Secondly, SI and GSR are both B series and there is only a 10hp difference between a B16(SI) and a B18 (GSR)... The motor is essentially the same with minor differences, and both do not make nearly enough power alone without being built or modded. Stock SI and GSR are nearly the same thing performancewise, so it's purely a matter of preference.
Third whoever said buy the hatch with the b18 and do intake, headers, exhaust, and save up for a turbo likes to spend money twice because those headers, intake, and possibly exhaust and piping (diameter) will all be useless/a waste of money when you decide to go turbo.
Whoever said to buy a B18C5(type r) and save the leftover change for a turbo was misinformed. First of all the B18C5 is very pricey and doesnt have much more potential than any of the other BSeries motors (WHEN BUILT). The leftover change would hardly be enough for a decent turbo, labor, and the ADDITIONAL work necessary to have it run on a B18C5.This is because turbo and B18c5 do not agree very well as the type R motor already has very high compression.
I've run GSR swapped 5th Gen coupes in my stock SI and won because my motor and car was healthier/more in tact, and in good running condition.... Sure, stock B18s produce a bit more power than B16s, but the point I am making is... stock, 10hp is not nearly enough to say that there is a drastic difference between a GSR and an SI like a GSR would blow an SI away in a race every time because that's not the case.
Both cars GSR and SI are not fast enough without mods... so wake up and smell the coffee when comparing the two cars because it all depends on what the owner wants the car for.

The last that posted...PROPS to you! You know what you're talking about and the stuff that was on the thread wasn't even all that difficult..Most people don't understand that the dc2 needs not a header for turbo...Anyway..if a gurl knew that stuff..i think you fellas should too :)
But by the way, I think the GSR would be best because you can get better internals..It's stronger to start off with..I have a 4dr GSR with b20vtec :) I think i know what I am talking about
If you want turbo..why not do a gsr in a eg?? saves money.

first of all, all cars need not a header for turbo because you can't use a header in a turbo application you have to use a turbo manifold so the turbo can bolt on to it. I'm just sure you have a b20 vtec motor in a 4dr gsr  ...secondly, this thread is like 2 years old, stop bringing back old shit!

Did you read anything in this thread? Why are you putting the B18C1 in your 99 SI? If you would have read you would see that there is only a 10hp difference in those motors. Is 10hp worth $3,500 to you? Not to me. Build up the B16 that comes with the SI. You said your car is a theft recovery so maybe the motor got stolen, if so, get a cheaper motor than the gsr. You can buy it cheaper and dump more money into it and have a faster, stronger motor than the gsr for less of the price. Do some serious research on the net before you go spending a lot of bank, you definately won't regret it.

Hey what do you think happens when cops find a theft recovery civic si you douche bag? 99.9% of the time the engine is missing. Yup I bought my car for $2200 with no engine and no bumper, and since i have a b18c laying around and not being used at all, shit why not. So next time if you have a solution for anybody ask them why are the doing it and save your lame advice after you have been answered too.

My integra was stolen and recovered and they didn't take my B18C1. Sell your motor and buy a cheaper B series motor and build it. It will be a lot cheaper. Take my advice, from someone who has dropped a B18C1 into their car, money goes fast....

Damn, I've never seen so many people argue over lame stuff for so long. Anyways, The 2000 Si's are clean when there bone stock and DC's have all the potential in the world to look JDM'ish. Allthough one is built on a EG platform and was available in OBDI (94-95) and the other is a new style and clean as hell stock. To me, there kinda equal and Id own them both.
1.8 or 1.6, low comp or High comp, Butterfly intake or High flow intake, Oil cooler or not, Crank angle sensor or not, OBDI or OBDII, Titanium coated crank or plain ole cast. Shit, it dont matter to me as long as its a clean running B-Series. They all have potential and I guess what it all comes down to, IS PREFERENCE. My Pref, it leads me to a clean blue stock 99/00 si. There like water yes? But atleast Im swimming in it...
