Being unemployed

Unemployed again! Been applying for jobs last week and this week. And nothing. And it isn't even like the jobs I am applying for are anything great. And I do not even get responses back.
2 interviews out of about 15 applications. One person said they were going to hire me(told me this over the phone). Someone was going to call me monday, monday came and went
tuesday came, I called them back, they said the guy got busy and he plans on calling me tuesday sometime. Well here it is Wednesday night and no call.
Why do people jerk you around like this? I am begining to think they get pleasure in this kind of thing. I am getting married in a year. I can't be playing around with these people, I need a job yesterday.

Call back those who say they will and dont. It may not always work but employers want to see applicants chase things up (to a certain degree of course)

You have to keep after the employer if you want the job.

yes that is true. The economy sucks now. I got too accustomed to the 90s when the employers would hunt you down.

sounds like me. I am 24. Did the college thing, biggest waste of time and money. Sure it was fun at the time, but it just was not worth it. I could have been working somewhere for 6 years now.
that peice of paper was not worth it. It is not earning me any money.

Dude, the economy will start getting better and eventually you will get a job doing what you went to college for. In the long run, I think that "piece of paper" will earn you more money than if you didn't go to school and just worked at a job making less $$$.
Keep your head up; something will come along.

The US saw a stonking 7.2% GDP growth in the 3rd quarter, the highest growth since 1984. Business spending is up, as is corporate profitability. The Dow's rallied by 30% since March.
Think twice before making a stupid attempt at belittling someone who knows more than you :disappoin

feel for ya... but it happens. employers expect too much tho. i was in ur shoes a lot of times and for too long. i left school, was on the job hunt for 2 years after that, and finalyl i got a job afterwards. takes a lot of time.
sometimes you get so depressed and shit, that you just give up and sit in ur room and sleep all day. and then ull start swapping ur whole room upsideown with updated resumes all over and giving shit out.
to get into any kind of field of work/career... there was no way in, BUT to start doing shit for free. i had to volunteer at a few garages to get myself into it. and after the hands on experience, someone was game enough to even hire a female mechanic. bastards. sexist, bastards.
ive even had a few employers make shit up JUST not to employ me coz of my gender. one guy i remember, told me he couldnt put me on because of the LED in the radiator would damage my reproductive system. i didnt say a word. i had to leave.
system sucks. and people are even worse. its best to get into it by starting something of your own, or get into buisness with someone else. and now im second in cahrge of a small garage and its hell busy. the only way in i guess and im damn proud of it.
im jsut glad im over that thing. its like going thorugh hell honest.

I tried the automotive field, went to school for a while because I was not finding a job. I enjoyed it, but my diagnostic skills were just not improving.
SO I quit school because I could not see paying all that money just to become a parts changer.
So now I am in a even deeper hole than where I was a year ago.
I start a temp/warehouse job tomorrow, working for peanuts. But I am getting married in november, I cannot afford to be just sitting here.
Get this! In my recent job search, 2 of my interviews were no shows. That is right, they scheduled an interview and were not even there.
One guy did it to me twice. He was not there the first day, I bought his excuse, he was not there the next day when I went, I told him to forget it.
Just yesterday I went on an interview and this guy was not there. What is it with these people, they expect you to be there and on time, but they cannot even show up.

wow... i get ya. and that fucking sucks. if thats wha tpleasures those assholes, i hope they suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome. (hope i said it right)
thats the thing tho. it happens all the damn time. same with me. i went for interviews and alwyas came out thinking it was really good, and they let your hopes up by saing " yea well ring you this afternoon, were interested in meeting you again", and no call. so you ring them, and they either havent decided yet, or theyll ring you tomorrow. so nothing tomorrow, then you ring them. and then they say u werent sucessful for the position. really pisses me off. even if im not in the position like that anymore, but i have to watch my friends go through it aswlel and im trying ot help them out. and it puts me to shits seeing employers do that.
or get this. you find a position thats suitable. you get an interview, and it turns out theyve hired a junior.
evreything junior now.

that is exactly why I decided not to use my degree. I get tired of the games they play. (office politics, being a team player, knowing who's ass to kiss).
That is why I plan on going into business for myself. I just need to get something in the mean time to save up some money.
I should have got a Commercial driver's license instead of going to college. What pisses you off the most is getting through it all and realizing the entire time that you knew it was not what you wanted to do, but you surpressed those thoughts because it is drilled into you that you must go to college from the time you are in elementary school.

Exactly why I'm leaving my current school. I am going to go be a mechanic, and damnit, i don't care what anyone says. I can even get an associates out of it, so people that tell me I'm ruining my life can shove it.
Motor eyes: Damn, I had no clue you were a woman! That's cool. I don't really know any women who are into cars as much as you seem to be. But I dont see that as an excuse to not hire you :disappoin Hell, if anything, it shows that you're pretty determined and not afraid to "go agaisnt the grain" so to speak. It sucks that theres a lot of really sexist people still out there. Hehe, tell ya what, If my dreams come true and i eventually own my own repain/performance shop and you still are looking, then you got a job here. And vice versa hopefully ;)

Looks like alot of us would like to own there own shop, it is odd how none of us have a clue of doing it or at least I dont. I am looking for help and I will be going to WyoTech to get a understanding in the business and techincal area of this field.

Well that's the great thing aobut the school I plan on transfering to. After 2 years, you get your associates in gen. auto tech. I can always stay for another 2 years, or go back, get my bachelors and it gives me a business background too. So hopefully things will work out in zee future.

yea, college... like in the other thread i answered "i dont go to college" thats beacuse college and uni is ass work. you go, JSUT to get a piece of paper saing ure smart, and u wasted 4 years here learning shit. where as you could be leading your own buisness, or what not.
my opinion. you may htink differently, but i really thing college and uni is really irrelavant. unlesss of course ure headed for something like law or some shit. doctors, thats the shit unis for.
ok lost my plot. and that damn kookaburra hasnt shut up yet.

I GOT A JOB!!!!!!!! And not just a job, a career type job!!! It is a sales/merchandising job for a food company. I'll be on the road all day, no boss hanging over me! Only bad thing is I start at 5:15 am. I'll get used to it.
wouldn't you figure, as soon as I took that temp job at the warehouse. I only worked there for a week. The woman at the temp agency was not too happy with me, but oh well.
I'm the luckiest man alive today!

i feel for you guys. i was like jobless for 3 months a few months back. applied so many times with so little responses. and when i finally got a job...it was ok, at least some employer gave me a brake. just that travelling such a long distance to work drains a lot. not even cosidering traffic. traffic here in CA is so bad.
mtdxx
11-22-2003, 11:22 PM
distance to work is definately something to take into consideration. My new job is about 14 miles from me. I think that is even a bit too far. That 25 minutes each way will be eating into my personal time.
Sometimes it is worth taking a job that pays less than a job that pays more. You could end up spending that extra money is gas and your time.
How far do you drive to work?

Yeah mate, used to work in a bakery doing a bit of marketing and sales, a lot of face to face customer service and a bit of baking. Got asked to leave because I was costing them too much and they hired some idiot juniors to replace me.
The GREAT news is, I scored a new job on Friday with better pay, better hours doing something I LOVE. It's working at a place called Mountain Designs (http://www.mountaindesigns.com.au/) retailing outdoor gear including heaps of ski stuff. So not only do I get to talk about stuff I am passionate about all day long, I get more money for doing it AND cheap/free snow and general clothing. :D:D:D:D:D
The manager was so impressed by my experience/interests/availability that he didn't even interview me. Just had a chat for about 1/2 hour, emailed him my CV when I got home, he didn't bother checking my references and emailed me back with a starting roster :D
Today was my second day on the job. The only downside compared to before is a longer commute.
Hope this has inspired some of you folk who are currently seeking emplyment! I know how depressing it is being unemployed and am stoked about my new job. Best wishes.
