Swapping a N/A 2.2 for a 2.5 Turbo

I have an 87 Omni that i want to swap out the engine on, and put a 2.5L turbo in... Now I've heard all sorts of things from all sorts of people, but what i really want to know, is what else do i need to replace when i swap the engine? I've heard that the transmission (5spd) that i have on there will need to be replaced, as well as the rest of the drivetrain all the way to the axles need to go too... I plan on getting the engine from a Daytona, and i was wondering if by chance i can get everything else i need off of there too.

get a 2.2 turbo instead of a 2.5, 2.2's were more powerfull and could reach 300hp.. i dunno why, my guess is airflow was restricted more in a 2.5L than a 2.2L, becuase the 2.5L was meant to be economic..

i think you can get the engine and the turbocharger and intercooler from the daytona, but im willing to bet you need to find a turbo omni to get the vacuum lines, computer, wires and all that, and that will be a bitch, cuase turbo omnis are RARE, i think there was like only 1500 produced...

im not to sure, so dont go just by my advice, wait for some other posts :)

Just curious why you want the 2.5L Turbo I instead of the Turbo II?

Anyhow, you can do it pretty easy. Just find a doner car with all the underhood stuff. You can get it out of any car that has the engine you want. You will want to swap out all of the underhood parts and if you want I know of a site that will tell you everything you need and how to do the swap.

I just think that Turbo II will be better since you have the intercooler, bigger and better turbo, more horsepower, and a much better transaxle. The 2.5L used a non-intercooled Mitsubishi TEO4H. It spooled quickly but had no top end power. The 2.5L Turbo I had a longer stroke and put out around 150HP and 210 ft/lbs of torque while the 2.2L Turbo II had 174HP and 200 ft/lbs of torque. I have a reason to not trust these numbers though. I belive that the Turbo engines put out more power than Chrysler said they did. Anyhow; if you need any help just ask.
