trans problem

Has anyone had a transmission problem where the 3rd and 4th gear fail to engage when the engine reaches normal running temps. The mechanic tells me it may be a computer problem or the solenoids are failing to reach 6-amps which in turn is causing the gears to slip\not engage. Problem started a week ago and we're still trying to truoblshoot it. 98-K1500 with 116k.
