I drive a 91 civic hatch, All i've ever owned is imports. The combination of a high horspower motor and this light of a car just kicks ass. I've owned 4 hondas (3 accords) and my civic and an 86 4runner. I'm in the process of building up my civic and i wouldn't have it any other way.

I like em both, so what?

Personally I like the twisties more than the straights, so I gotta go with imports. Both European and Asian cars count as import right? Gotta love those windy mountain roads, one way each direction, leaves blowing gently across the road, and twisties to your heart's content.......:sighs:

However, I do feel a need for brute power every now and then, and the sound of a Big Block Chevy going full throttle brings a tear to my eye.....:sighs:

So, Import with Domestic at a close second.

To many useless polls about what is better then what, what does this better then this. I guess this isn't that bad as it has more relevance then "will this car beat this car because i bet my friend lots of money to race him blah blah blah" But I'd have to say I can't decide. All cars are great in my opinion and i don't prefer one over the other. Sometimes i like the power that some domestics deliver. Other times i like the small little cars that can get me out of tight places. I use to be heavily on the domestic side. A Camaro lover. But know that i've started learning about cars, i'm leaning more to an AWD car. So an import. But really, :gives: about me.

EDIT: The stupid thing was not meant for carnnut. Was meant for the fellow above it :) Carrnut just screwed it all up !!!!! :(

I used to be an American Muscle junkie. I had a 1970 1/2 Z28, pulled the original small block out and replaced it with a 427, Ford 9 inch rear end tubbed to fit ( because we destroyed the original one ), bla bla bla. My point is this, recently I have gotten into imports. I enjoy driving them equally.

Bottom line-if you enjoy your car's performance and like the way it looks who cares where it's from!

They are all pretty cool.

Well I don't think its fair to group everyone together as trouble making newbies, personally i've been here since 01-02 but I had a different name back than having a different car at the time that I currently do not have, I guess I'm technically not a newbie but still take that as an slight insult.

i love both cars. but however i prefer imports. they just have a nicer build and has a nicer interior. plus i grew up around imports. theres nothing realy wrong with v8's. i love the way the LS1 sounds. ( sorry GTstang) but i just can't stand their cheap interiors. they're horrible!

for overall drivability, and performance, id go with the imports, for all out dragging, id go with the domestics, like camaros, and firbirds. it can go both ways actually, i dont really care if its domestic or import, but for my daily driver, and performance vehicle, it always seems to be imports, so i chose imports.

did this guy call a 91 civic a high horsepower motor? a little math for you...
91 civic: 108hp@6000rpm 100lb/ft@5000rpm
curb weight 2284lbs
this averages out to about .047 hp/lb
as compared to a common rivalry
91 mustang gt: 235hp@4600rpm 280lb/ft@4000rpm
curb weight 3125lbs
this averages out to about .075 hp/lb
and just for kicks lets compare to
95 ford escort 130hp@4800rpm lol/torque
curb weight 2478lbs
this averages out to about .052 hp/lb

so if the 91 civic is a high HP machine..LOOKOUT for that 95 escort
im just messing with you so dont get pissed but the civic is no high HP motor

Why is there such a big difference between you and I? Do you drive highway much? Is it because of your H/C/I and your high stall slushbox?

i was looking at dumped91civichatch's ride at cardomain. well it doesn't look like much. but since he does have his motor out of hte car. then anything is possible. but then again i do'nt see any sign of a turbo so i doubt that single cam non v-tec or even v-tec civic is goin to make any real power even with internals done.

have only owned hondas, and jus love the high rev'n factor.

still have much respect for domestics an some of their cars tho as well...

"decimate" is spelled with a "c" there, chief.

Personally speaking, I like hybrids. Back in the 60's, many small exotic car manufacturers sprang up practically overnight, producing beautiful and fast sports cars using inexpensive American V8 power. The list of such machines is a grand one.

Like the Iso Grifo/Bizzarini which used either a Corvette 327 or 427.
http://www.europeancarweb.com/features/0205ec_bizzar02_zoom.jpg
The Detomaso Mangusta and Pantera which used Ford 351 Clevelands.

http://www.allsportauto.com/photoautre2/detomaso/pantera/pre_l/1971_detomaso_pantera_pre_l_05_m.jpg
The Jensen Interceptor with its big Chrysler V8 and complex four-wheel-drive layout.
http://home.hiwaay.net/~tjhiggin/hwystar/pg_int.jpg
The Sunbeam Tiger, which had a Ford 260 (and later a 289).
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/stocwebsite/pictures/scans/B9470207b.JPG
And, lastly (though this is not a complete list) the hybrid which we all know and love, the humble AC Ace with Ford's 427 dropped into it; the Cobra.
http://www.sportscarspictures.com/photoautre/ac/cobra/1963_ac_cobra_02_m.jpg
Might as well also add the car the Cobra spun off. Stretch a Cobra chassis, drop a Ford 428 into it, and let Frua do the bodywork and you get the AC 428.

I think hybrids solve this debate pretty handily.

The Mangusta used the windsor power plants, Octagon, the 289 HO in Europe, and the 302 here in North America.

12secv6stang, the word Mangusta is Italian for Mongoose, it was supposed to describe the character of the car as a fast, nimble and vicious little beast. Sums it up pretty well, I think :iceslolan

As for the imports, well, I guess Porsche is an import... So is BMW, and Mercedes Benz, and Audi... Well, guess I'm going to have to go with imports then.

Seriously, my car is 25 years old this fall, and the fit and finish of my interior is simply superb. It has a few small problems, the dash tends to crack, and I never liked the steering wheel, so I replaced both. Unfortunately, my baby was left out in the rain for several years suffering the worst problem of the 924/944, the sheet metal under the battery tray rusting, and rain water leaking in. Ergo, I have no interior. Then again, an interior is just weight, and I really need to get this baby back under 2300lbs. :sunglasse
