Im lookin into getting a fox body. The first thing im doing is gettin a DSS pro billit short block. Question is...if i get a 5.0 i assume everything will go together and the rest of the drivetrain will be able to handle roughly 320whp+... But if i get a 4cyclinder it will be dirt cheap however... Will the rest of the drivetrain and car in general be able to take it... i know clutch is being replaced... but not sure if transmission, driveshaft, rear end of axles will take it... are they the same as the 5.0? please help

I'm swapping a Fox body 5.0 drive train into my '88 4-banger. The 4-banger tranny might work, but is supposedly weaker than the 5.0 tranny. I think the bell-housing is different, though. Won't bolt up to a 302. The 4-banger has a 7.5" rear-end, while the 5.0 has a 8.8" rear end w/traction-lock. The 7.5" rear end is supposedly weaker. Even if it will hold up, you probably want traction-lock. I'm using a 3.55 8.8" rear end from a turbo-coupe. Don't forget, the 4-banger has single exhaust - the 5.0 has dual exhaust. The cross-members are different to accomodate the different exhaust systems. You should get a 5.0 donor car with a really rusty body. They can be had cheap, if your patient. I got one for $700!

the question is, is it worth the hassle i meen, buy the 4banger... like 1500$ in semi-decent condition, go ahead and buy a donor car 600-700 so theres over 2200 at a good deal already, I think if it comes down to it i will, but i think id rather wait and maybe look for a 5.0 for 2000-3000, and i know it can be found i see it alot. Then just put the shortblock up on stand and as checks get cashed order parts, as parts come in, start assembling, i have a nice prelude SI for my daily driver, but to get that thing to run with a mustang, hell i could spend the same amount of money and buy a WRX sti. But im really a V8 man. yeah, ill probably just look for a cheap/decent 5.0 starting point hell, maybe ill just buy a roller someplace that would be great actually.

You can pick up a 5.0 for $2200. I'm looking in the auto shopper right now and theres four 5.0's under $3500. Now you can pick up a 4cyl car cheap, I'm selling mine for $500 BO, *cough cough*. Then pick up a donar mustang, turbo coupe, or junk yard parts for under a grand. Just be ready because there is a lot of work.

Yeah, i've decided im just going to get a decent 5.0 and start from there... Probably get the DSS short block still, and swap the parts from the original 5.0 into the 306 and then biuld up from there.
