Question....

in the street racing forum we are debating what setup is best for racing....


a lot of people say that AWD is the best including on a track....i disagree with that and brough up the argument that F1 is RWD but i've received the folowing reply:
As in most touring car championships around the world, AWD was banned from Formula One a long time ago.
well I always though that F1 was always RWD...am I wrong?

well deakins answered the question...aparently there were son AWD cars in 69....do you guys know what happened to them...banned or something else?

I dont know about the F1 cars, but didnt audi get severe weight penalties on BTCC about 5 years ago because of AWD and the weight pretty much ruled them out of any race. But if you look at the speedworld challenge series, the audi's usually get the hole shot and lead the majority of the race, but they eat up tires and the bmws and other RWD cars would catch them. I dont totally agree with AWD being the drivetrain of choice but at the drag strip it helps but i think a road course there are to many things to consider.

apparently there were some safety issues with running a high reving drive shaft inches away from the driver...or something like that. ill look it up

i was just thinking about that...it would be weird to see those drive shafts sticking out in the front wheels
