I am not an off-road enthusiast but I am sort of an outdoor enthusiast and the extra inch or two of ground clearance would be great. What are the largest tires I can put on stock 93 Ford Explorer rims without any major modifications or lifts?

LOL, sounds like another porb i had with my explorer... i dunno about the largest tires, but i mounted a complete set of BF Goodrich 31x10.5xR15 All-Terrain TA/KO's onto my factory aluminium rims. BUT, they do rub on the swaybars if you crank the wheel all the way to the side.. but for the new ground clearence and traction its worth it.... p.s. the guys at the local tire shop said i was insane if i thought those tires would fit on my truck...lol... they were wrong. i tried includeing a picture of my tires/truck but it didnt work...

i believe the 30x9.5xR15 is the largest size you can fit on there without rubbing

you prolly could mount them up...... but i doubt you could turn the wheel much with out rubbing inner fenders and the sway bar,
IMO, Buy a slightly cheaper set of tires and drop a few hundred on a small lift kit

I had 265/75 16 i had a tiny bit of rub but it was easily taken care of by moving a splash guard.
