For the past few months, ive been thinking about this car, Eclipse GSX. If I found one that was just right, i prolly would buy it. But, my cousin, and many other people tell me to stay away from this car. That ill have many problems with it. I talked to one of the guys he knows, he says buying an eclipse was the biggest mistake, hes had so many problems. Puting new axles, steering pipe, brakes. I mean sure this might be after the last owner, but i could have the same problems. Im going to put aftermarket on it anyway, but....that aint the best always
I always get suggestions to get a honda, id rather save some money from an engine swap though.
I want to get the GSX stock turbo. But i keep hearing any turbo/supercharged car leaks oil, about after 50k miles. They make it sound really horrible, GAH!
There is this other guy at the skewl, he's had his GST for about 4 years, no problems, and is far from stock, inside and out. He's gotten pretty far at the shows and runs the 1320 in the low 12's high 11's. ARG! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO GET! SOMEONE HELP ME OUT!

dude he was being sarcastic... Eclipse is a good car, although they can be a lot of work if you start modding it and not replacing things that cant handle the mods you put on, thats where you have problems, other than that they are great cars if you dont beat the piss out of it everyday you shouldn't have very many problems with it.

Yeah, rst is right. Treat your car right and it will treat you right. If your friend had all that trouble with his gsx, then the previous owner probably left a beat up car for him. Any car can be like that. Even those gay hondas. Check out the car before you buy it. And if any of you honda guys are reading this then GO BACK TO THE HONDA FORUM.:flipa: This is for Eclipse enthusiasts.

Who told u that turbo cars leak oil after 50,000 on them. My GS-T has 69,000 on it and the only problem I have had with my car is my FMIC rubber hose got a slit in it from rubbing on the metel, Because the hole was not cut out all the way. An eclipse is the best single turbo car to have right now i think, as long as it is a 95-99 body style, all the other body styles i do not like.

Thats funny because, i have never towed my car because only miner stuff happends to it, But on the other hand the 99 gs that i hade for 2 months had to be towed 5 times because of power steering and a bent rod then i said screw it and got a gs-t.

heres a helpful hint for car buying:
ALL CARS HAVE PROBLEMS
yes if you buy an eclipse you will have to repair things, yes higher powered cars have more problems. Stop listening to other people and get what you want. if other people told you what car to buy, it would be THEIR CAR NOT YOURS

Get a honda so DSMers can 'smokeurass' lmao, JK, My car has 144k+ on it and I have had to replace the axles, fix a bearing, fix my valve seals and head gaskets... well to make a long story short, dont get a car with a lot of miles _any_ car, have a mechanic look at it, but imho, the eclipse is a great buy, especially the 2g with has a nice body, but the 1g awd or gst or tsi is also a really fast car. I personally wouldnt get a honda just because many people get that and swear they are fast, but those who do mod their hondas and get a fast car get as much respect as a enthusiast dsmer. its those who have the 'type r' stickers all over and are all riced out with a 92hp car that make me look down on them.

Under your profile it says you have a 99gs? Have you turboed your engine? Because if you havent, your 420a will get beat by any turbocharged civic. If you have turboed your gs, then kudos.
I own an eclipse and am happy with it, just making a point that we shouldnt just say "f*ck honda" just because some of us think that our stock n\t cars are fast.

Ok, maybe saying ( F*ck Honda ) was alittle overboard, but from my point of view, i hate and i can't stand Honda.. There are 2 makes that i can't stand, that is Ford and Honda, no offense to any Honda owners out there, i mean thats just my thing, sorry  People have there own opinion, so please don't take that as a direct comment if your a Honda Owner

Anyone know of another company that makes 120hp/liter production n/a engine? there are plenty of hondas that own you, and comparing civics.. what 18k new, to say my TSi, 30k new.. is apples and oranges. id like to hear someone (smart) point out many disadvantages about ye old.. say.. NSX?

the nsx only cost about 3 times as much as a dsm
JoeWagon

that has no relevance to my post. im not going to comparing an nsx to a dsm because my point was dont compare apples and oranges.

My old ass non turbo Rx7 was 120 hp per liter if I remember correctly. ;) Honda was not the first to build high specific output motors, but for some reason when the 99 Si came out everyone made a big stick about 160 hp to 1.6 liters. My rx7 was 155 hp to 1.3 liters 10 years earlier. And 800 rwhp cars are doing over 600 whp per liter. But thats getting off topic. NSXs are slow but thats off topic too, and they are road cars. :D
Hondas when turboed can do just as well as turbo DSMs. And why not, they have similar sized motors. But, the DSM has to distinct advantages. AWD, which is absolutely KEY in dragracing. And two, the motor is already built to handle 450-500 WHP stock, depending on 7 bolt or 6 bolt, respectively. So again it comes down to the fact that its not that DSMs are some magical car that makes assloads of power and runs unusually low ETs. Its a car that makes assloads of power and runs unusually low ETs for short money ;) My ex's Vortech supercharged '00 Si is QUITE impressive. But she paid a lot more than I did to get to a given power level, and ET is at least a half second behind because of the Wrong Wheel Drive dissadvantage. I trapped 108 mph for about 1800 in mods, includint the palm I got for the logger ;) She spent 3 times that to run 107 mph (still impressive!) but the best ET was 13.4s on drag radials to my 12.7s on street tires. Thats the only point I like to make comparing DSMs and hondas... Both will get you there eventually, but how much do you want to spend.

Quick question. Woulden't you say that DSM's are built more with road racing in mind?

I wouldn't say that DSMs are made for drag racing, especially when a large proportion of dsm owners are just using the 420A which in comparison to the 4g63 does not provide the same throughput. The point is, that with a DSM (or more specifically, a 4g63) you can get great times for low money, it is a bit more costly to get a 420A to run as fast as the latter, but it still provides some nice gains, especially one running the hahn race craft turbo. But like someone already pointed out, getting a Honda to run the same time as a 4g63 on a stage II kit, will cost you considerably more, but it is not impossible, especially if you have the money.

Not really. DSMs are heavy fat ass pigs of a car. Though they do QUITE well when setup to do so. With cheap AWD and turbo in one package like the GSX/TSI AWD, drag racing is its strength. Traction is ETs. Turbo is MPH. DSMs own most of the tracks I have been to as far as imports go. The occasional supra or rx7 shows up that has been well modded and runs well, but DSMs are out in force week after week.

Before, I just wanted to put in some things for why I disagree with the whole 'honda sucks' thing. Don't want to say 120hp/L is the best or that the NSX is the fastest, but I won't back down from what I said.. 120/L isn't bad and I would guess that some other companies would like to achieve it. Also might add the NSX definately isn't the fastest but it has tons of awards, mostly because of awesome handling, which isnt only my opinion.
