Allright, Im looking to by an ol' '89 escort from a neighbor. The car ran excellently when he parked it 5 years ago. Unfortunatly he never drained the fuel tank, oil, coolant, etc etc etc. Now, Ive only dumped about 3 gallons of gas into the tank, added a quart of fresh syn. oil and drained and refilled the rad. with fresh anti-freeze. Ive checked all the fuel shut off relays, checked the fuses and fuel relay there, also checked the siliniod (sp?) bolted to the drivers side fender above the battery. Dumped a lil gas into the semi-carb that the EFI 4 banger's got, and cranked away. The fuel in the carb burnt nicely, car fired right up and sounded beautifull, then died. Again put more fuel in the carb, knowing that the lines were dry and it might take a while, fired right up, then died. Repeated this about 10 times. Then got the engine started and kept it running for about 10 min by adding drops of fuel to the carb directly. stopped and the car died with it. Tomorrow, We go to dump in about 5 gallons of gas into the tank becouse ive heard that once the pumps go dry you have to put alot of gas into the tank becouse they arnt self-priming. If it doesnt work, Any ideas, aside from replacing the pump? :banghead:

Seems Like The Fuelpump Is Bad. Turn Ignition On And Listen For Hum In Tank. Pump Should Make Noise Until Pressur Is Built Up. If Not Pump Is Bad. Also Check Relay.

It was the mini-injector for the semi-carb. I ran 13 volts through it to get it to open up and put it back in place. fired right up. problem now is that, even with the transmission full of fluid, it wont drop into second or third, just either stays in first, or drops out of gear all together. :eek7: im thinking it could be either a sensor or clogged filter. if not one of those two things, then what else might i check? BTW, the alternater isint pumping any juice anymore, but ive never heard of that affecting shifting. :banghead:
