I have searched all over this site for some insight on remote starts. I did find a few threads but nothing that will help me. I have a 96 Cav and have installed an Omega RS-7k2 (the threads I did read said these were crap) and it works about 15 - 20 times in a row and then suddenly stops. It will try to turn over but not start. After a few days it will start working again. Any ideas?

Yeah, those Omega thngs are reall POS! Anyhoo, more than likely it is either a faulty thing on the starter like a loose connector or bad relay. Or, it could be one of your connections. What does it actually do when it fails to start? Do you have it set for voltage or tach sense during start?

When it fails to start it sounds just like it does when it turns over and starts but as far as I can tell it doesn't fire or the remote starter quits. I usually only let it try to start twice or so before I use the key.
I took it to the local Omega dealer and he went through all the connections and put in different relays. Just yesterday I took it back to him and on thursday he is going to try the tach setting. So we will see.
Thanks for your suggestions and if anything else comes to mind please let me know. I will wait until thursday and see what happes.

Thanks again.

Sounds like it is losing it's tach signal.

Well, it still doesn't work. It is set up to start by voltage. The dealer said the only other thing he could try is putting in a new passlock. He believes the starter is not hitting the correct resistance every time. Also he doesn't really want to try to hook up the tach. I was wondering if you have any documentation on this? Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Why the hell doesn't he want to hook up the tach? Is this some backyard guy or something???? Well, it can be a number of things then. Either one of the ignition wires isn't being energized, the voltage sense is not sensitive enough, or the passlock is wrong.

I always use tach. signal. Reason is here in Ohio the weather can go from high 90's to -30. Well, sometimes in those extremes the remote "thinks" the car started. When it is below freezing, it's not good to have all the car's lights and electronics on for 20min or so. It's a recipe for a dead battery.

Also, for the Passlock, sit in your car when you try to remote start it. If the "security" light comes on then dissaappears, then it is OK. If it starts to blink or stays on, then he screwed it up. I strongly suggest using a 555L from DEI since it self learns the right code each and every time you start it with the key.
