ok i have a 1979 el camino ss and i saw some headlight bulbs i liked they are Xenon bulbs that are tinted purple i was wondering how do i find out the size of the bulb i have in right now and do i just take the old bulb out and pop the new ones in?? they look sweet compared to the ugly yellow color mine are right now!.

the light bulb itself should have the bulb type printed somewhere on metal parts
its normally h1, h3, h4, h7, or 9004-7
and yes, basically you just take out the old one and put the new one in
also those bulbs are illegal in some places.
most laws require the headlight colors to be either white or yellow
xenon lights in cars such as Mercedes, BMW, Lexus are legal because they are equipped with auto-leveling feature in order to reduce glare

the problem with such an old car would be that it does not have one of those modern bulb sockets as standard so it would need some sort of adaptor to accept one...
as bulbs go i recomend PIAA a bit pricy but top quality and street legal.....btw yoy should remember that those bulbs are not true HID's...fort HID's you have to buy an entire kit at around 400+ $
