any benefits to an auto civic

Are there any benefits to having an automatic civic besides being able to have your arm around your girls while driving? I heard that its better with a turbo because the turbo is always spooling so off the line an auto would have a bigger jump. Any comments? I have a auto civic two door 97 oh yeah it sucks cause it is an HX anyone know anything besides the fact they suck. I heard it was a V-tecE (economy)

HX Civic you say? If you have the CVT tranny, then kiss ANY performance orientation goodbye, That tranny is for economy only and you can't tweak it like you can a normal auto tranny by means of upgrading the torque converter, which can make it shift quicker than stick in many instances.

how would I know if I have the CVT tranny? I believe I do how do I remedy this situation? I am a newbie so sorry for stupid question yet we all have to learn some how.

Its easy to tell if you have a CVT - does it shift while driving? If not, then its CVT.

Well hmm.. You should know what stuff came on your car.
Does your shifter have "PRND32" or is it "PRNDSL" The first is a normal KA4AT automatic tranny (as found in DX, EX and some HX's) and the second one is the patter for the CVT tranny. If you have CVT, I'm not sure if it's any different to swap out to a normal auto tranny. But if you have CVT, like I said there is NOTHING that can be done for it since it works off of bands rather than typical gears to do what it does.

i have never seen CVT trans before but it would make sence to compair it to a snowmobile, a snowmobile trans works with belts and centerfugal force to creat different gearing ratios, basically as the resistance on the wheel or out drive side decreases the closer to 1:1 the gearing ratio becomes. at least that is my understanding

The only advantage of an auto over a standard is it will shift faster and more consistently, and on a turbo car you can build boost off the line using a trans brake. Although as far as I know nobody makes a brake for honda auto trannys, and they're weaker than crap anyways so it would probably just destroy the trans.
