grinding noise in 97

I got a 97 SE, 2.4, and theres a somewhat loud grinding noise coming from the front of the car. shuts off when I turn on the AC. I been told power steering pump, fuel pump, alternator. Any help?

I would say either the AC compressor or a motor mount.

Mine does something like that also. Try the clutch on the side of the compressor. It moves around when you change the fan settings. Watch to see if it is sticking. From what I've been told, like mine yours is worn out and needs to be replaced. It's supposedly around $400 for the job and your ac will need to be drained and refilled, since the compressor will need to be removed and worked on.
