i know theres stuff out there for fitting an efi 5.0 out there, but howabout a OHC or DOHC 4.6. I don't think i've ever seen one retrofitted into an early stang, ive got a 67, and i was kinda thinking about it, wonder how hard itll be thats the only thing. if anyones got any ideas i'd appreciate it

I haven't seen it done or supported by anyone mostly becuase there is no real demand cause it's not making a lot of sense.

iu just think id be kinda cool to see how fords pride and joy, their DOHC 4.6 and their other pride and joy, a classic mustang would go together. i think theres some potential in that engine, either way, it'd be different.

I'm not argueing the coolestness factor cause it would be different. But if I was going to all that trouble I would be using a N/A 4V Cobra motor not a regular 4.6

A 4.6 would be cool, but it sounds expensive. A new crate engine for a 1967 would probably cost less and could be completed in a weekend.

the DOHC 4 valve engine would be ideal, problem is theyre expensive unless i can find a wrecked cobra, someone makes a crate motor, but the block itself is 8 grand or something like that. I figure i can get a regular 4.6 out of mustang or a crown vic or something and try putting that in, and put a cobra motor in later, if they have the same maounting points and stuff it wouldnt be too hard, yes it would be expensive, but somebodys got to do it. at this point its just an idea and I've got to do some work on my stang as it is, but in the long run on this project the cobra motor is definately a likely centerpiece for the engine bay.

I am getting ready to drop a 4.6L 4v (supercharged) in a 57 T-Bird. You can't beat the power to weight ratio of a modular engine with a blower.
Plus it fits in the engine bay of the TBird perfectly.
Also upgrading the suspension (Mustang II front, upgraded Ford 9" with 4.10 & posi rear + shortened axles=wider tires), & transmission (AODE, heavily modified). Car will look stock, but should be in the 11.5-12.5 range in the 1/4 mile.
Cost of engine is a little prohibitive. Luckily, I found a Ford Racing 98 cobra crate engine, with engine harness, ECU, Accesories, and a 500mile AODE trans for $4500. Otherwise, I'd be trying to modify the existing Y-block - definitely put a ford in your ford.

I found it on ebay. I was the low bidder ($2500), but nowhere near his reserve price. Evidently, no-one wants a 4.6 4v set up for an AODE; everyone wants a manual 6-speed, so no-one bid higher than me.
Turns out he lived about 15 miles from my parents. The next time I was in town I stopped by and talked to him. He wanted $6000, I counteroffered $4500. I'll have the engine and tranny by X-mas.

Check out Ford Racing, they just built a classic stang with the 5.0 Cammer in it with webbers.
