I own a 1991 Jetta that was driving fine. All of a sudden the oil light comes on and stays on. The oil is fine. But, then the car just fied and will no start now. It does crank. This is no spark coming from the coil. I did replace the coil but that did not help matters. If anyone has any insight please help.

Thank You
ann marie

I am have the same problem with my sons 86 GTI. His alternator went out and took something with it. After replaceing the alternator we have no spark. We have replaced nearly everything but nothing seems to help. If you find out whats wrong with yours will you let me know and I will do the same. Obviously nobody has a clue in this forum. I have received some pretty strange replies to my thread. Thanks, Brad

Maybe you should address the original problem. Check the oil pressure sensor, or maybe the oil pump has failed and some safety mechanism has engaged.
I don't know anything about VW's, but thats my 2 cents.

We finally resloved the same problem in my son's 86 GTI. It was the knock sensor control unit. I am not sure if you car has one as the Golf doesn't but the GTI does. We took it to a mechanic who looked at it for a week and could not figure it out so I went online and found a siye that has VW Schematics. Turns out that the distributor goes directly into the knock sensor control unit. We bypassed the KSCU and wired it like the Golf and Waa Laa spark. If you do not have a knock sensor I would check the Ignition module. ours is locate on top of the ECU under a plastic cover in the back of the engine bay. Hope this helps.

How about posting a link to that schematics site please.
