voager faster than monte carlo

my brother who owns a 99 monte carlo(rice smoker) told me that after driveing a 00 voager that the voager had a faster take off than the mone carlo. But the van weighs 4000lbs and the chevy weighs 3800lbs and the chevy has 160 MORE pony power (80hp) that the 150hp 2.5L van so does any one have any explanation?
