hey guys... novice here with the x but im loving it. i just put a manik grill guard and two ion crystal PIAA's on the front end. With this extra weight i have noticed (and its driving me nuts) the front end sits a bit lower than it used to without the grill guard. in either case, i wanted to raise the front end about an inch or so. Dealer said he could adjust torsion bars and realign front end for $150 or so and everything would still be ok in warranty. My question is
[
1) is adjusting the torsion bars pretty straightforward or is it worth it to just have dealer do it.
2) what is the disadvantage to having my torsion bar adjusted. do i lose any "give" in my suspension with 1" or so worth of lift?
im not a serious offroader like most of you. actually compared to most of you, im hardly not at all. its just that i love this truck and the front end bugs me.
im in the process of getting a frontier crew cab and will probably get a grill guard for that too and would like to know how to take care of this problem.
thanks folks.

Save yourself $100 and do it yourself. Here is a great tutorial on how to make the adjustments:
http://www.maxc.org/mods/torsionbarHOWTO.htm
Remember to get an alignment after you are finished, which may run about $50 or so.
As far as side effects you may feel a slightly rougher ride, but not much. I wouldn't go up much more than an inch or so. There is really no significant disadvantage to doing this, as long as you don't go up too much.

What the dealer is saying is that as long as you keep within factory spec's then you don't do anything that will violate your warranty. Since you already feel like the front end is low, merely returning it to it's orginal position is going to keep you in spec.
Those of us who wheel with lifted front ends usually go by the rule that if your index finger fits between the a-arm and the bump-stop, then you're ok.
There is a post in here somewhere about the rule for being in spec. It goes by a measurement from the pivot point of the lower a-arm to two other points that I can't remember. Do a search and you'll find it.
