Lancer in US? Yes!

AutoWeek reports that Mitsubishi will bring the Lancer to the US in 2002, and it will take the place of the Mirage because, well, they're the same thing.

The bad news: so far, there are no plans to sell the 4wd "276" hp version yet. But, we can all hope that the new WRX sells well enough to convince Mitsubishi there'll be a market for it. In the meantime the front-wheel-drive, 125 hp Lancer will sell for about $14,000; it will compete with the Civic, Corolla, Jetta, Sentra, Protege, Focus, Kitchen Sink, etc...

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that Mitsubishi's execs are easily swayed. :)

Isn't the lancer and mirage the same car (like a contour and mondeo)???
Anyway, apparently if the WRX sells well, teh Evo will com ehere, but maybe with only 230 hp or so.
Too bad, bu twe can always hope:rolleyes:

Hi everybody, I'm new here.

I heard that the Lancer is going to take the place of the Mirage Sedans in the US, but the Mirage Coupe is going to stay the same.

I have just learned that a 280+hp version of teh WRX is coming here. YES. This means that Mistubishi should come here in full strength. It has been likened to Ford vs. Chevy. This should be good.

I wouldn't mind seeing a lower trim level of the EVO come out with 230 hp as long as the price was lowered to compete with the WRX.

just the normal lancers are coming, not the Evos...yet. They are really good looking cars, especially the OZ rally edition. Many people, including myself, think that it is very reminiscent of the Evo VII. I just wish it had the power to back up the looks. 120hp just doesn't do it for me.

Mitsubishi is most-likely-almost-certainly going to bring over the Evo within a year. Maybe as a cheaper 230hp, or the full-tilt version, or both. Either way, it will be the (mostly) same as the European one. Hurrah!!

PS. It will be the VII. Expect a 230hp to be 25 grand, 300+hp to be 30 grand.:D

Well, I just saw in a recent article for R&T, the new Lancer. I'm sorry, but, it looks like shit!! I really hope that they don't fuck up the Evo and make it look like the regular Lancer. I like this car and would hate for the Evo to look anything remotely similar to this car.

I'm starting to see the Lancers on the street, and I like the way they look. They look like they're a lot more car than they are.
