'87 erratic idle

my '87 is experiencing an erratic idle. When its cold, the ilde will jump. As it warms up the time between jumps will lengthen. If I try to shift out of park while the idle is jumping it feels like the emgine and transmission are going to rip right out of the car. I've checked for vaccuum leaks and didn't find any. Any ideas?

I havn't personally had this problem, and don't know a whole lot about 1st gens, but Im guess its your Idle Air Control valve. Thats usually what they say it is on the newer cars with similar strange idle problems.
