lost engine power as car gets older?

i was just wondering for you guys that have camaros from early 90's if you've had a noticeable amount of lost engine power as the miles pile up. I'm thinking of buying a camaro probably anywhere from the years 93-97 and i wanna know if i'd have to rebuild to get back more of its original power. thanks a lot guys...

Thats how all engines go. Lose power... over the course of many miles and many years, seals, rings, springs, bolts, and moving parts have the tendency to wear out, loosen up, lose their precise measurements.

Engine rebuild is in order. You could probably get away with a top-end rebuild...new cam, lifters, valvejob. But the top and bottom of the engine are built to wear out with each other...so you'll run into problems later.

My bone stock T/A has 80,000 miles and pulls a 14.1 no problem...with my friend in the car, full tank, and tires spinning. LT1's are great engines and as long as it was taken care of you shouldnt be worried about a rebuild unless you are gonna do some major mods. But you can just get one with decent miles and drive till have enough money to do what you want. (unless of course it's got like 200,000 miles....) You should be able to tell when you drive it. Or just make sure to have an inspection done at a GM dealership or something. Or if you have AAA they provide inspections for used cars also.

yeah, so long as the owner didnt beat the snot out of it, small block chevys are very dependable and dont have any abnormal wear problems, so a 93-97 would still be in fine shape. i had a 77 olds with a chevy 350 in it with 150,000 miles, and when i tore it apart, it still had the factory cross hatching on the cylender walls. and both my '89 camaros have around 150,000 miles on them, and the IROC with the 350 gets 23mpg, and runs like a swiss watch.
