Toughest bigblock??

Which bigblock (in stock form, block only) is the strongest, and will withstant the most boost reliably? I know that this is usualy a hot topic for the V8 fanatics, and thus is full of alot of oppions, so could you give me examples to clear things up?

Strongest 'block' hands down as to be the 426/500ci Hemi block.

If it can withstand 8,000hp in the form a Top Fuel drag motor... I think its safe to say thats the strongest.

To be fair, though, Redneck, you've got to take into account that the Top Fuel Hemis are Keith Black type aluminum block Hemis specially designed to withstand that sort of monstrous power.

Honestly, the Hemi block in a modern Top Fueler has very little to do with the Hemi you'd find nestled in a Charger's engine bay.

But you've got it right in saying that a Hemi is pretty tough. Though I'd be willing to say that they don't live well under abusive conditions. Now the Wedge engines (383, 413, 426 Max Wedge, 440) those things will live forever without so much as a hiccup.

Cadillac 472/500ci engines are pretty tough too.

I agree, Mopar V8's are the strongest. They have what is know as a "Y" block where the crankshaft main caps are supported by the block on the sides. Chevy did this with the new LS1 and made it a 6 bolt main, but its aluminum so it isn't as strong. The strongest GM motor is the BB chevy. The main reason is because they have the best oiling system. Buicks and Oldsmobiles have a lot of trouble with oil once they are built above 500hp. I don't know much about Pontiacs or Fords, but I would like to learn.

You want a bullet proof anybody block you call people like Ford Racing, Dart, etc.., aftermarket blocks are the best. They are designed for idiots like me who just can't get enough hp.

With all due respect to the MOPE guys, the question was about the block, not the heads. The reason the B and RB blocks have the pan skirt is to make up for the thinner areas around the bulkheads. The Hemi block is the only one with the "side bolt" mains, so I would say it's a lot tougher than the other MOPES. If 440 had them, it would get my vote. Hemi simply doesn't fit into this discussion, as it is in a class by itself, and in most cases, cost-prohibitive...
It's foolish to argue with the big block Chevy. It is perhaps the best engineered and produced automotive power plant ever devised for a street application. It is also among the most versatile. A "tall deck" is capable of easily handling 3,000 horsepower on alcohol. I've seen some use the factory iron blocks in nitro applications. You won't see the Dodge doing that anymore... The heads are what make the Hemi a good nitro engine. And the statement about the top fuel hemis versus the stock ones is right on, but I spoke to some Hemi guys at Indy in September. Kieth Black engines are no longer popular. There's another company now, making "billet" blocks and heads (aluminum). That's the direction all of the funny car and top fuel teams have gone the past 3 or 4 years. I can't remeber the name... AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Memory is the second thing that goes...
Bear in mind, I'm a Pontiac guy, NOT a Chevy guy. As a matter of fact, we take more pride in beating the Chevys than we do the Dodges! But I'm also a professional engine builder. My opinion in this matter stems from 25 years of building engines, some race, some stock.

i think the 454 i found a aliumum block 1 with 600 hp stock and they say it can handle any amount of power u can put in it.in my magzene they put 970hp in it wid just a blower and heads and cam and it handled the power fine, there 454 had 500 hp in it stock so you could have ova 1000hp wid that 1 i am guessing [but the question is wiil your be ab;e to handle the power!! or will it fall apart]
