Installing Screen + DVD

Hey, people. If any of you out there have installed an LCD screen and DVD player before you can be of greeat help to me. Basically, what does it entail, and how difficult is it? I installed the rest of my system(head unit, two subs, two amps, components, coaxials, crossover), so I'm no complete fool when it comes to installing. Just wondering if this is any more difficult than what I've already done. And what exactly will I need? I know the screen, dvd player, FM Modulator...what else? Another install question for anyone who's done it? Radar detectors? How hard? What will I need?? Thanks for the info people.

I was quoted $25 to install a normal head unit and $150 to install the pioneer P7300DVD with the P9000R brain... Apparently there are a LOT more wires to deal with, but I don't know if there's any truth to that...
If it does have a motorized lcd, you have to make sure it has clearance, I know that much. The lcd setup I'm getting has the Pioneer P7300DVD as the DVD/CD player and LCD combination, but it can't read the CDs on its own, which is why I need the P9000R too. That handles the power output (45x6), and even has Dolby Digital 5.1... If you're getting a similar setup with a brain like this, you'd have to reroute all your wires through the brain, then to your head unit. And since you'd probably hide it under a seat or something, it could take some time...
Regardless of your setup, I think it's all a matter of keeping a level head and knowing where you need to put all the wires. It shouldn't be any more challenging than what you've already done, just more time consuming than the average head unit....

It doesnt sound like he as a "motorized" screen... it sounds like he as a seperate screen, and DVD player. But as you said, shouldnt be any "harder" then what hes already done... just might take a little more time.

Since you've installed the rest of your system, this should be pretty easy just a little bit more time consuming. Most of the in dash monitors come with an owners manual and a install manual. Just follow the directions just in case you get stuck.

As far as the install goes it is pretty basic. The only hard part is finding a place to mount the hide away box. I am an installer by trade and I see these things everyday. If you are looking for a monitor I have an Alpine CVA-1005 for sale along with a 12 disc changer. $850 for both. Let me know if you want.

Ok, I didn't figure that it would be any more difficult, just wanna make sure before I get started and then find out I was wrong. Yes, it would be a seperate screen and DVD player. The screen I plan on mounting on the dash by removing the front-right vent, mounting the screen bracket, then replacing the vent so you wouldn't be able to see a crude bracket nailed to the dash. The dvd player itself would probably be mounted in the hatch area of the car. One more importan question though...Do I have to toss my current head unit? Is there a way to have your headunit play cd's and radio and the dvd player play just dvd's? And how would you switch between the two??

Depends on the brand... Pioneer decks denoted with a "P" before them are compatible with their P-screen and P-processor... etc... I'm sure other audio companies have similar compatibilities... but you'd have to be sticking to the same brand names... You could probably wire it so they shared the same speakers, but if you used cd and dvd at the same time you'd run into some conflicts maybe? This is sheer guess-work on my part though...

Yea, this is where I'm confused as well. What I want to be able to do is play them both at seperate times. Like be able to switch between playing the stereo, and when I want to, I can switch to playing the monitor. Anyone know how to do this??

Hey, how's it going? No, it won't be a similar brand. Right now I have a Pioneer head unit and will probably be adding a Mobile Authority, Iconz, Emerson, or Farenheit monitor...As you can tell I'm fairly undecided, lol. But I'm pretty sure it WON'T be a Pioneer screen. So what does that mean?

when i installed mah screen and dvd player.. it was simple.. .. i juss got the screen for ebay all it had as a power wire, ground and rca conneciont.... mah head unit is.. a .. old kenwood... (.no AUX!!!) and a sound storm.. dvd mp3 player.. and a fm modulator... i conected the ground from the screen and power to the screen to mah fuse box it has a fuse on the power wire so no worries there, thend .. i connected the power wire form the dvd.. the sam fashon... and connedted the visual rca from the screen directly to the dvd.. then i connected the audio rca form the screen to the fm modulator. .. thend with the audio rca wire to the other end of the .. fm monudlatoer and connedtd the antenna to the head unit.... and dere u get sound .. thur a fm station.. honestly i dont recommend the fm mouldatr sound quaitly not that good.. to leave it out tho u need a head unit..that has AUX auxilary input.. ... so the sound would be betther.. but about the P connection like the pioner.. it wont work with this set up.. bc..the are only ..same brand compalbitlb.. i hop this helps u out.. and.. if u need som clarifaciotn.. jus email meeh at [email protected]

hey simplest way to install, like the way i did lol, was i put the screen on a goose neck from the passengerseat bolt so when i wanted to see the srenn i lift it up from the bottom. and when i wanted the gooseneck outthe way i just put it all the way down to the floor. the best part about this is that the screen can be unscrewed when u go home.........just unplug the power and rca and u got the screen and ur face to ur headunit to go home with u
