'72 Super Beetle Vacuum & Mod Questions

My wife and I have recently purchased a 1972 Super Beetle. This is a totally new animal for me so I have a few questions. First off, it is all original except for the following parts which have been replaced: Solex Pict 34 carb, plugs, wires, etc., generator, voltage reg. The original transaxle was rebuilt by the Texas Bug Stop. Not much else has been done to this very clean bug. My questions: 1) Where do all the capped off vaccuum lines go? There are two on the carb (left and front), one right below the carb on the intake and one on the dual port head to the left when facing rear. Oh, and one one top of the oil bath air cleaner. 2) It is a daily driver, and like I said in very good condition, but certain mods would like to be made so as to ease service. These include but are not limited to: New paper filter air cleaner, oil filter conversion, electronic ignition conversion, and supplemental guages in the dash. So how much damage to the value of the car will I do if I follow through on these updates/conversions? Should I really make an effort to keep it all original or as close as possible? We are the second owner and all serial numbers match. By the way, I have saved all of the old parts that I replaced, just in case. We do not have a VW club here or I could join that and get answers to my questions.
