I Need Help!!!!

I got a 88 corolla from a friend and he let it sit for about a year. I changed the spark plugs, battery. I cleaned the fuel system, changed the oil, and now it runs. It even passed e-check. But I have a severe loss of acceleration. And it takes a real long time to shift from first to second.(its an automatic) I don't know what to do, any suggestions, I am open to anything?
