my starter went bad the other day. i had to roll start my truck. i got it home and it wouldnt start. just the one click then nothing. battery is new, starter is a year old. tried to jump off the solenoid but didnt work. i tapped the starter with a hammer and now it starts everytime so far. is it fixed or is the starter still bad?

Sounds like you have a dead spot in the starter. It probably will work till the starter stops on the dead spot again.

Had the same problem with my 1992 ranger. When I got the click, i crawled under the truck with a hammer that I carried in the truck. This worked for about a year until it recently siezed up. you'll know when that happens when you turn the ignition and the starter will turn over real slow and eventually just make a soft grinding noise. I got lucky and the starter siezed up in my driveway. You might want to replace it soon just to be safe. Hope that helps

I have had some problems with badly corroded battery cables in the past. Sometimes the corrosion reaches a good ways up the cable so check for it(look for loose cable covering or bubbles in the covering) and replace if needed. This is a cheap part replacement that pays off in much better electrical performance.
