Is this system a good buy?

I know nothing about car audio but I do want to have a lil thump in my ride. Nothing extravagant, just simple and cheap. First, I just bought a 1990 Sable GS will any cd player fit? What should I look for when purchasing one? Second, I found a complete system on ebay. I know it's not going to turn heads, I'm not looking for that, I would like to know if it's worth the money.

and just the subs and amp kits

For around the same prices? I don't want to spend more than that.

No more than a couple hundred and thats including the head unit. For the money the system above isnt a good deal? Could I get something else at those prices?

i wouldnt do it. you can compile a set of low name parts that will sound better than that. that also isnt a complete system its missing two speekrs.
ill grab you a list in a sec.

Cool. Now on to the next problem, how difficult is it to install all of that? I'm pretty good with electronics but I never messed with car audio. Any how to sites? Advice?

Ok guys thanks for the help I really appreciated. Now how am I going to install all of this? Is it relatively simple? I really want to do it myself mainly because I am frugal so any how to's will be appreciated.

What do you want to install? An Amplifier? A headunit? speakers? www.crutchfield.com (http://www.crutchfield.com) has some great guides based on your car

ssjwizard

ok well doing the door speekers takes only a few minuites. you just pop the snaps on the bottom of the door pannel and lift it off basicly. you will need to disconnect electronics on the door such as power locks and such before you try to do this. but then just screw the speeker into is place.

the 6x9's i listed will probably have to have a hole cut for them in the back that takes a while.

then just wire them up to the existing wires. if there arent any then you need to run your own its pretty simple.

the amp just needs to be wired to the battery its a quick install i can tell you more about it later .

I would go with what ssjwizard said. the only thing is u may want a more powerful amp.

ssjwizard
11-01-2003, 12:11 PM
with a sub as cheep as that i wouldnt go to a morepower full amp if anything a cleaner amp not that you will be able to tell that much with a cheep sub like that

i dont want to disrespect anyone but pretty much all of the stuff on those lists is shit. for the same price ou could get:

and adire sub(great sub): http://www.adireaudio.com/mobile_audio/drivers/shiva.htm

boss amp(alright amp) hell of alot better than legacy:

im to lazy to find cheap head unit on ebay but it should be the least of your worries. and one of the guys recomended some 6.5" 3-way speakers run far away from those. get an alright set of component 6.5" speakers, and don't even get rear speakers, and if you do just get another set of comps. component speakers are much better and you will be thanking me if you get them instead of coaxials.

Boss sucks, I have one and hate it, Profile and lanzar are better for the price anyhow

ssjwizard

i agree boss isnt that great either. and i do agree in whole that components sound better than coasials but for someone looking for cheep range of sound thats what you need. for people who dont want to mess with mounting tweeters that what you get. no rear speekers are you out of it. in a full cab vehicle you need rear speekers. you simply cant match the fullness of sound of a 4 speeker system no matter how good your front speekers are. on the sub yes there is VAST VAST room for improvment over the legacy BUT to keep in the price range and have a full system theres no substitute. he said 200 dollars complete system and with a single part at 125 theres no way your going to make budget.

IMO, save up to $400 and we can find something MUCH MUCH better. in the long run, u won't feel wasted. i learned it the hard way. i went cheap on the headunit, sub, amp, etc and now i regret not waiting in the first place.

Actually yes you can, I only have 2 speakers and it sounds much better than when I had 4. The only time I can even tell that I don't have rears is when I turn around and stick my head in the rear seat. 2 speakers are clearer, and if you get good ones they will be louder and have more punch (we're talking about for the same total price, 2 speakers vs 4). You also don't have to worry about the timing from the rear speakers screwing with your imaging.

I like having 2 speakers much more than having 4

i definetily aggree with sr20de4evr.
and i personally don't own a boss, but i heard more success story's about them so, they might suck.
